Scooby Snacks

1 cup butter, softened

¾ cup brown sugar

2 whole egg

2 tsp vanilla extract

1 pinch salt

½ tsp baking powder

1 tsp cinnamon

½ tsp ginger

2 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup oats

optional special ingredients: 1/3 cup each: chocolate chips, raisins and walnuts

1.  mix dry ingredients together in separate bowl

2.  creme butter and mix in brown sugar until smooth

3. beat the egg and add to sugar/butter and mix - add vanilla

4. add 1/2 dry mix to wet mix and combine - add remaining dry mix

5. Using your hand to mix your ingredients into a 2" dough ball  .

6. This recipe is a little crumbly so try to make them into balls.

7. Place your balls onto a cookie sheet (lined with parchment paper) press lightly with fork.

8. Bake 15 minures at 350ºF on middle wrack.

9. Cool 10 minutes

Results:  Scooby Snack does not spread while baking,  soft and crumbly, cinnamon aftertaste. Needs more chocolate chips.  Not too sweet.  Didn't have ground ginger but it would be nice.

Above recipe adjusted.  Warning: this is a test kitchen recipe.  I'm about to make it, just waiting for butter to soften.  I'll let you know if it needs one egg or two.

Not sure I can take a whole thread on Rickard + Lynesse = Jaime but I'll give it a try :P

Fear not, The evidence/opinions for and against won't come into it. This is Heresy after all

A Feast for Crows - Brienne I

Jaime would not do that. He was sincere. He gave me the sword, and called it Oathkeeper. Anyway, it made no matter. She had promised Lady Catelyn that she would bring back her daughters, and no promise was as solemn as one sworn to the dead. The younger girl was long dead, Jaime claimed; the Arya the Lannisters sent north to marry Roose Bolton's bastard was a fraud. That left only Sansa. Brienne had to find her.

A Game of Thrones - Eddard I

"I was with her when she died," Ned reminded the king. "She wanted to come home, to rest beside Brandon and Father." He could hear her still at times. Promise me, she had cried, in a room that smelled of blood and roses. Promise me, Ned. The fever had taken her strength and her voice had been faint as a whisper, but when he gave her his word, the fear had gone out of his sister's eyes. Ned remembered the way she had smiled then, how tightly her fingers had clutched his as she gave up her hold on life, the rose petals spilling from her palm, dead and black. After that he remembered nothing. They had found him still holding her body, silent with grief. The little crannogman, Howland Reed, had taken her hand from his. Ned could recall none of it. "I bring her flowers when I can," he said. "Lyanna was … fond of flowers.

A Game of Thrones - Eddard XIII

"Yes, Your Grace." Ned offered Robert the paper. The king scrawled his signature blindly, leaving a smear of blood across the letter. "The seal should be witnessed."

"Serve the boar at my funeral feast," Robert rasped. "Apple in its mouth, skin seared crisp. Eat the bastard. Don't care if you choke on him. Promise me, Ned."

"I promise." Promise me, Ned, Lyanna's voice echoed.

Ned is obsessed with his promises to the dead.  According to Brienne, a promise to the dead is even more binding and must be kept.

This is reflected in Ned's fever dream of the Kingsguard at the ToJ.  They have taken a vow that they must keep after the death of Aerys.  This is why he also dreams of Lyanna, why he hears her voice just as he does at Robert's death bed.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Been there, seen it done it so far as berserk rage and strength are concerned - and it can be astonishing, but if you still want to suggest a magical explanation, the proven link to Ghost is far more likely than a so=far speculative dragon

Have you, or really any of you all put any thought into the old idea that the wolves are divided wrong. To me it seems like Ghost should be Bran's. Did he get handed the wrong wolf. It almost feels like Jon should have Shaggy, since he's a black brother. Just the fur and eye colors seem off. Unless the switch was in my head or meant to protect them too much.

Hint: Trying to work too many puzzles at the same time without enough pieces can lead to some pretty crazy possible solutions.

Yup. And a whole lot of liminal spaces.

Brienne VIII in AFFC makes a great re-read if you focus into her descent into the Underworld escorted by her ghosts to meet the judge (Stoneheart)

I'll try to take a look at it. I can't seem to make myself focus to read much for a while now. And I doze off to the recordings then can't sleep later. Ugh.

I know I got sucked into Catelyn returning from the Sept and all of the descriptions the day Renly was slashed.

That chapter is full of ghostly references; Mel's shadow, the drowned woman, Renly's shadow knights, the wisps of mist as morning ghosts, Storm's End emerging from the mist.

The humans of the Seven Kingdoms built their civilization atop a massive, magical burial ground. They didn't learn their lesson from Poltergeist--they chopped down the weirwoods, but they didn't remove the roots.

They tried with fire and failed, they tried with ice and failed. The trees remain.

Quote

The stone is strong, Bran told himself, the roots of the trees go deep, and under the ground the Kings of Winter sit their thrones

(remember that Winterfell is also a "monstrous tree")

And they are angry:

Quote

The trees were huge and dark, somehow threatening. Their limbs wove through one another and creaked with every breath of wind, and their higher branches scratched at the face of the moon. The sooner we are shut of here, the better I will like it, Asha thought. The trees hate us all, deep in their wooden hearts

Great. Now Ive got Pet Semetary stuck in my head ;) That said all this splitting of the land seems to maybe have something to do with the weirwoods and their roots.

I keep coming back to the passage where Jon fights Othor. There's something in it symbolically almost when you look at ghost like he's the stand in for either a Greenseer or the tree itself escaping the tree to battle. That whole section is filled.

we've discussed the wolves a lot over the years, but they do seem to be pretty matched. Indeed from the very beginning GRRM has emphasised not just the links between the children of Winterfell and their familiars, but their resemblance

Arguably of course, although it might be anathema in some quarters, Ghost in both name, appearance and behaviour is foreshadowing Jon's fate.
