DMC
Twitter suspends Project Veritas account: Quote The conservative activist organization Project Veritas was suspended from Twitter on Thursday for violating platform rules. The account was “permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter’s private information policy,” a Twitter spokesperson said. The group’s founder, James O’Keefe, had his account temporarily locked, also for violation of the private information policy. “The account owner is required to delete the violative Tweet to regain access to their account,” the spokesperson said. Let me add a few more: - He didn't say the exact words! - He didn't know what they'd do! - How can he be held responsible for what those people completely independently decided to do?! - He didn't intend for them to do that! - And, oh yeah, did we already point out that he didn't say the exact words? Lollygag
I know Manchin has very real differences but lately he's been very weird. It smells like there's some political theater going on for Manchin to loudly separate himself from the D majority and presidency in order for him to keep his seat. It's not lately, just more noticeable these days as his influence has grown. He's a stick in the mud that you hate to rely on, but he doesn't want to actively hurt Biden. Here's a good podcast about him, his mannerisms and the state of politics in WV. Basically it's the same as always. If you're an outsider, ignore what he says and watch what he does. He's going to annoy even self-described centrists Democrats at times, but I doubt he'd do something similar to what McCain did if there was a crucial party vote. The legislation would just have to be watered down to some degree prior to it being introduced.

Not necessarily to keep his seat - he'll be 77 in 2024 so we'll see if he wants to run again - but you're absolutely right that this is all just position taking for his constituents. Myshkin
Is Tommy Tuberville the stupidest person on earth? Yes, yes he is. I thought I’d bring an update on conservative wacko world, even though the past few weeks they’ve reverted to the usual griping about “cancel culture”, “woke-ism”, and Democrats being hypocrites about uniting the country because they won’t let go of the ancient crimes that happened a few weeks ago. But today a new wrinkle emerged: it would seem that the Capitol riot was actually the fault of none other than Nancy Pelosi. You see, good old Nancy was informed by the FBI (or the NSA depending on who you ask) about the Capitol riot weeks, or maybe months, in advance, and rather than doing anything to stop it she called all the antifas she knows and told them to go crazy. It seems so obvious in retrospect!

I've been seeing so many Trumpets repeating the fact that Ds don't want witnesses because the FBI will testify that they knew there would be violence at the Capitol ahead of the 6th, so Trump's speech couldn't have incited the riot! CHECKMATE! I'm like - have you been following the trial? That's what the prosecution's case is based on.

It seems so obvious in retrospect! I’m not surprised. In terms of conservatives having to face reality the Capitol riot is a doozy. I’m not allowed to post on the board I used to post on with a bunch of nutty conservatives because they started charging a fee to participate on that sub and even though it’s maybe $1 a month to join the site I resolutely refuse to pay one single penny to read the shitty opinions of aging nutjobs. For free it was fun now and again, but I’m not gonna pay for the privilege. Anyway, in all my years of participation there, one of the most common themes is that if someone ‘conservative’ did it, that person was really a liberal or liberals somehow set it up. This long ago reached its natural conclusion - the unshakable belief of many an American conservative that Hitler and Nazi Germany were really a bunch of leftists. Hell, SOCIALIST is right there in the name! Even Fox News hosts have touched on this from time to time in a despicable bid to assure their viewers they can’t be the bad guys, and in fact are the persecuted. I used to love to needle there about the ‘party of personal responsibility’ refusing to take responsibility for absolutely anything at all, up to and including the basic concept that there might be a couple nut jobs in ones camp. Trump, of course, fanned the flames here as well by refusing to take responsibility or blame for anything. Nowadays conservatives call that ‘fighting back’ and it partly explains Trumps popularity. never apologize, never admit wrong. This is the new creed of the conservative. A while back I told my dad that one of many reasons I wouldn’t vote for Trump is that he sets a terrible example for my kid (who wasn’t born yet but was about to be). My dad who, in fairness, (and thankfully) is a lot more level headed than the Q crew still offered up a pretty piss poor rebuttal by saying, ‘well, Trump will be long gone by the time he’s old enough to follow things.’ Come on, Dad! That’s taking my point a little too literally when there’s like millions of impressionable children out there currently watching this absolute abomination of a presidential performance. Responsibility as a concept is completely gone from America conservatism. Reasonable Republicans took their tax cuts and looked the other way and told themselves that the things Trump said and did didn’t really matter or he didn’t really mean them. They completely dismissed that the words and deeds of the President of the United States have inherent power and very much do fucking matter and tried to laugh it off. And now, when it’s past being funny to anyone, they still won’t take any responsibility for enabling a president that nearly tanked democracy any more than Trump himself would take responsibility for a fart in an elevator. But yea, mass shooters being false flags, Capitol rioters really being antifa, Hitler being a leftist - all of it very common if one delves into right wing internet. Not even extreme corners either, just conservatives ones. It’s disturbing to me how many of them just can’t grapple with the concept that there are shitty people on all parts of the political spectrum. I think it really played perfectly into the Q cult which frames everything as an epic struggle of good versus evil, with American conservative patriots clearly on the side of good. How couldn’t they be when the other side are baby-sacrificing, blood-drinking, pedophile, socialist cannibals? And remember, the Nazis were socialists too! I have aunts, uncles, and cousins who are 100% this crazy about political beliefs who otherwise totally blend into society. It doesn’t bother me that people like this are out there, it is the abundance of them that bothers me. Literally millions.
Mindwalker
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/15/us/politics/josh-hawley-super-pac.html Former staff members for Claire McCaskill, a Democrat who lost re-election in 2018 to Senator Josh Hawley, have started a super PAC to defeat Mr. Hawley the next time he runs for office — part of a broad backlash against him for leading the effort last week to overturn the results of the presidential election. “Senators swear an oath to the Constitution and loyalty to this country, not aid and abet an attempted coup against both,” the super PAC’s first ad, posted on Friday, says. The group is called Just Oust Seditious Hacks, a backronym for JOSH.
GrimTuesday
For anyone who appreciates professional wrestling, the latest hullabaloo around Lauren Boebert is that she may or may not be the illegitimate daughter of "Sweet" Stan Lane of the Midnight Express, the Fabulous Ones and The Heavenly Bodies. Not only that, but Boebert's mom claims that she and Stan are first cousins so maybe that wee bit of incest explains a thing or two. Alternatively, judging from the many many screenshots of shit her mom has posted about it, it's entirely possible, if not highly probable, that her mom is just a grade A nutcase, which would also explain a thing or two.
