Rumors swirling that indeed Lars Mikkelsen has been cast as live-action Thrawn along with Mena Massoud (live-action Aladdin) as Ezra Bridger. And that there is a possibility they will first be seen in the next season of The Mandalorian, which is ahead of schedule, before the Ahsoka show.

Ezra is space aladdin so I'm pleased with the casting.

Clearly pitching Thrawn as a blue alien to B Cumberbatch failed. Hopefully they gave him a real pitch to Lars.

Did they build an actual space ship? What the crap is this? They have pricing for "3 adults and one child"? What the hell are they doing with that kid?

It is an immersive 2 night stay in a hotel that will look to you like a starship and involve all inclusive accommodation and essentially a choose your own adventure Star Wars LARP with professional actors. You get lightsaber training, ffs

Yeah, that hotel stay is more akin to a 2-night cruise ship, with day excursion to Baku (aka Galaxy's Edge in Hollywood Studios). https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/star-wars-galactic-starcruiser/overview/

You board a ship on Earth, fly up to the luxury star ship. Eat, drink, explore the ship. See shows. Get recruited by real actors for missions. Take a shuttle down to Baku for a few hours, return to the ship. As a local, I've been watching the development of this with interest, knowing the price tag would be stupid insane. It looks like a lot of fun, but no way I'll be boarding a shuttle this side of winning the lottery.

Having visited Galaxy's Edge a few times, and having flown the Falcon and done Rise of the Resistance, the hotel is going really immersive.

Rise of the Resistance starts with you boarding a shuttle, as in you walk up the gangway of a life size ship. It closes behind you and you can "see" through the view ports all around the compartment. You feel like you're taking off and leaving the planet. Then of course the First Order attacks, you hear see, and feel ships fly past outside and shoot. A Star Destroyer appears and pulls in the shuttle. The same gangway opens and you step out of the shuttle into the hanger of the SD. Full line up of Stormtroopers await along with First Order officers to take you to your holding cell. I was pretty awestruck how cool it was.

So, yeah. I'm bummed the hotel is so expensive.

If only it was focused around the original trilogy. That's what galaxy's edge always should have been.

Its still fun to see Chewie walking around giving hugs to kids. Or Kylo Ren stalk through the crowd with a pair of Stormtrooper guards. Not OT, but it still turns this grumpy 40+ year old into a kid again.

My favorite memory was when my 7 year old nephew was visiting. We had been at the park for a few hours and he was getting tired. We took him to the side so Dad could try to avoid a melt down. Then a hand touched my son's shoulder. Rey was standing there and she immediately engaged my nephew and drew him into her story. She was avoiding a Stormtrooper patrol and needed help. He of course agreed to be her look out. He followed her down into a courtyard where they hunched behind a stack of crates. Right on cue, a ST patrol entered the area, accosting people for news of rebels. My nephew waved her back and watched. They eventually moved on. Rey thanked my nephew, and went on her way.

Now with pandemic restrictions, all the characters were away from crowds, so I don't know when these types of interactions will be available. To me, these are the best part of the parks. Not the rides. The surprise interactions with characters.

True but having Vader march around with stormtroopers or even 501st clones would have so much more appeal. 100% agreed about Chewbacca though.

They used to have Star Wars Weekends in Hollywood Studios, spanning four weekends around Memorial Weekend. That was really fun. Aside from the interview panels and autograph sessions with the actors and people involved with movies and cartoons, there were countless characters in costume all over the park for autograph and photos. Characters would also stroll through the crowds.

Vader would walk through the crowd with his ST escort like you described, but didn't interact with any one. He was above everyone. :)

More fun was being accosted by ST for contraband. Or having Tusken raiders steal your stuff (water bottles, etc). Or trade bits of junk with Jawas (my son traded a plastic fork for a ratty park map).

Sadly, these events went away before the acquisition.

  • 1 month later...

Visions comes out tomorrow and is apparently quite good.

Quote

One of the defining factors of Visions is that none of the shorts fits into the established timeline. You won’t see familiar faces like Anakin or the Mandalorian — and that’s by design. Instead, the stories play with familiar themes and conventions, like lightsabers and the battle between the light and dark sides of the force. Waugh says the goal was to create shorts that were unlike anything else in the Star Wars canon; he cites the over-the-top action of “The Twins” as a great example. “You wouldn’t get that story if you were trying to fit things into a timeline,” he says.

Was surprised no one has remarked yet on it. I do not have Disney+ but may get it next month to check it out. I think the concept is brilliant and long overdue.

@Deadlines? What Deadlines?

Also surprised no one has remarked on the quotes from her about both the new trilogy and the prequels. She doesn't mince words.

I watched the first one last night but couldn't continue because I'd stayed up way too late the night before watching election coverage. Pleasant surprise seeing all the episodes had dropped. The Duel had great animation and action sequences, even if I didn't care much for some of the designs and the odd toon shading [alternating crosshatch] that said, my preference bias didn't detract from the visuals once I got used to it. Interesting twist at the end, and I want to know more about the Wanderer, so good job. My 13yo* will be cranky I started without her, so looking forward to watching more of them later on this evening with her.

*the 11yo thinks Star Wars and Marvel and Science Fiction and Fantasy and Animated stuff is all 'stupid' so she gets little sympathy from me when she gets resentful her sister and I dig on that stuff together bonding lol

She might not have commented on the prequels before out of some vestigial loyalty to George. They were divorced by then but still.

She was a voice who could be brutally honest with George Lucas and still maintain trust. I think her absence was definitely felt with the prequel films.

Really glad Marcia Lucas said that.

People who disliked TLJ generally get dismissed as "man babies", "toxic fanboys" etc and occasionally even lumped in with the alt-right.

But here you have the woman who effectively saved Star Wars (The original 1977 film was by many accounts a disaster in the making until Marcia Lucas saved it in the editing room) saying what we've been saying all along: Kathleen Kennedy, JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson didn't have a clue what they were doing and they don't get Star Wars.

I mean, no, it really depends on why they profess to dislike it.

Anyway, the first episode of Visions is cool, very nice visuals. The second is a joyous delight. Neither are deep or significant, but I like this a lot more than, say, What If? so far.

What did Marsha Lucas say about the shows? You people are too fast for me.

She strongly criticized Kennedy and Abrams for the sequel trilogy. She didn't like that the main three characters from the original trilogy were killed off, though not sure what you could have done with Leia anyway. But she hated that they killed Han, and didn't like how Luke died. She also had a thing to say about the Rey lacking a good origin, though I think she was mainly talking about TFA in that case.

I did watch the first episode of Visions based on recommendations here.  Its definitely a departure from the norm.  I did enjoy it.  Don't know if I will like all of them in the series though.

I think that's what's great about anthology shows. They throw a wide net out, different studios and different story styles, and chances are you'll like a few and not like a few, and someone else will like the ones you don't and dislike the ones you do, etc.

More anthology shows, especially animated anthology shows, is a great trend. Love, Death, + Robots seems to have kicked something off as a recent anthology show example.

So far, Visions seems to have pretty broad acclaim in the Star Wars fan community, including among denizens of the Saltier than Crait subreddit who are known for their hatred of the sequel trilogy. It seems like it is in fact possible for Star Wars fans to want new and interesting things in the Star Wars franchise and hate the sequel films.

@Babblebauble

Slashfilm has the relevant quotes if you want to check them out.

@Corvinus85

I think her remarks on Rey had to do not just with the first, but the second, as it's clear she had seen TLJ (her remarks about Luke) but had not yet seen RotS at the time she was interviewed. It also fits with her concern that they were planning to release a movie every year, something they realized was not going to work right around the time of Solo which released half a year after TLJ.
