What's the last thing you bought?

Recommended Posts

I just bought my son his first electric guitar, a Les Paul Custom with a Fender amp.  It sounds great, with much richer tones than the Fender Stratocaster that I kind of expected him to pick.

I bought some string lights and a power strip for my slightly gloomy and outlet-devoid airbnb a month ago. I'm thinking of buying two (2!) proper things though - a painting and a dress. I've been thinking about the painting for months and the dress for years. I really like the painting but it seems to belong to some future adult Datepalm who has a place to hang it and sensible way to transport it, which this one probably doesn't. But I liked it and it's fairly unusual in being a cityscape. I don't know if its even available anymore, but I got the artist's details and I may or may not look him up. The dress doesn't exist per se, but I've been wanting to get something* in wax print made since about 2014, which is how people do their more formal clothes here. One of my colleagues put short shrift to my waffling by recommending a tailor and a fabric place, so no excuses, I guess.

*ok, belted above-the-knee long sleeve shirtdress with a wide skirt, a bit 50s (everything here is a bit 50s) but casual enough to wear to work in the US.

The office where I work is unbearably hot, so I bought a handheld fan.

How old are your kids when you can start buying things for yourself again?

A portable air compressor, after 5 gas stations in my neighborhood had damaged or non functioning tire filling stations. It works fantastic and I'm sorry I waited so long to get one.

You can’t tell me you don’t enjoy buying stuff for your kids. Can’t you get Adidas forest hills in baby size?

I refuse to be one of those parents who buys their kids expensive shit when they don't need it. I am looking forward to buying them a mega scalextrix though.

I bought my son a Scalextrix and he never got into it.  He loved cars, trucks, trains, etc but he found the track racing too confined, boring and irrelevant for his imagination games with his many diverse vehicles.

The trucks by Bruder toys were a big hit though, after he outgrew Thomas & Friends (those tracks he loved).

I loved Thomas the Tank Engine, but their economy was really sketchy.

Ditto. Now that I come to think of it, none of my children have shown the slightest interest in anything I’m even mildly interested in!

It’s strange, because we generally get on pretty well, while I’m interested in many of the things my father liked, but we profoundly loathed one another, though admittedly my loathing only came about once I was able to recognise his.

Sorry, too heavy for this thread, but I’ll leave it here for cathartic purposes!

I don't know if you can access this link, but I shop a lot at a chain store called Talbots.  They have a wide range of sizes and styles of dresses.  Currently, they're having a 50% off sale on a lot of their dresses.

I always said if I ever got rich, I'd buy artwork.  I wouldn't say I'm rich, but I'm comfortable.  Alas, I have yet to purchase a painting.  :(

You’ve already revealed your plans.

We won’t support your “draft”, no matter how many terror weapons you create.

I'm using it for a beverage bud, you'll like it.  Your guts might not but trust it'll give you a little glow

Last thing I bought was another piece of vintage jewelry from the '50s to add to my collection.

Booyah!

To be safe, you’re not torturing anyone with it are you?

It’s for tattoos?
