Granted that Sansa has the potential to warg, why is it assumed that she will?

Because magic is increasing in the world - example, Thoros was pretty much a failed red priest; it wasn't training that let him raise the dead, it was a gift that just awoke in him.

Still, it's hard to see how a new warg animal could have much impact.

What I think what's going to happen is that Sansa's gift does turn out to be important - not to skinchange, but to protect herself from hostile skinchangers. This is kind of hinted in her backstory - the way she falls so completely victim to Cersei's charm; her dream fears of invasion (and general smash-the-portcullis imagery) combined with the little theme of building walls to protect your mind; even the way she's mocked as being empty-headed, or a bird-brain who can only repeat the words she's given.

We know there's a mental battlefield to come (or what point is Bran?), and I'm guessing Sansa finds herself on it.

Who's gonna be the daddy? One of the common wolves who get their throats torn out if they try to 'mount' a procreative offensive!?, never in heat from what i surmise

In one of the early Arya chapters, it’s kinda laid out that Ghost & Nymeria are the alphas of the Stark wolfpack.  Nymeria followed Ghost around and those 2 seemed a little bigger and more connected to Jon & Arya than the others were with their wolves.

My guess is Nymeria is waiting on Ghost as her mating partner.  Those 2 will eventually lead a Super Wolfpack.  Maybe this is how George still gets his Jon/Arya union but through their wolves instead of as humans?

Still with the incest shipping heh? Cubs from the same litter don't mate, there are direwolves (other) beyond the wall after all

Well technically Ghost was found separated from the others.   Almost as if someone (Bloodraven) had slipped him in with the other pups.  Maybe Ghost isn’t really from the litter just like Jon isn’t technically a Stark.  Bloodraven is beyond the Wall.  Maybe that’s where Ghost actually came from?

Interesting, but the direwolves bond continually refer to Ghost as brother so methinks not. Yet it's fascinating to ponder, almost as if a hint to Jon's parentage

There will be no sharing.  Arya will lose her Stark identity and become no-one.  Nym will reject her, assuming they meet.  Someone else will reclaim that lost Stark identity and bond with Nym.  This will either be Sansa, or someone else.  Someone's got to ride three mounts before she is through, IIRC.

This is going to happen. It's so outlandish.
