If nobody passes to DCL, he doesn't do so well either.

Maguire is trying too hard to make runs, and has already made a few where he's lost his way a bit. He's going to end up giving the Germans a free counter attack before long.

I'd like to see Henderson on sooner rather than later to give us a bit more passing range in the middle.

Rice and Phillips are already doing a great job at giving Germany free counters. Goretzka waltzing past them like they aren't even there; Kroos being given all the time he wants to spray passes.

That was a really poor challenge from Phillips.

Kane should've done a lot better there.

Seems to me England is utterly without what constitutes a midfield today.

Trippier / Shaw are attacking fullbacks, they need space when charging forward. Rice / Phillips hold. Sterling / Saka / Kane line up as attackers. There's a void in the middle of the pitch where Southgate should have put at least one player.

eta. Has Sterling forgotten how to pass?

It seems that way.

Henderson seems the most obvious choice in midfield for me. We wouldn't lose anything defensively, but he's a lot better at passing it around and shouting at teammates to do goals.
