Gammons: we are sick and tired of these foreigners eroding our culture with their foreign ways and customs. We are particularly annoyed at Muslim women being forced to cover their heads and wear long, flowing robes that completely conceal their womanly form. This is an outrage, and would never happen in England.

England 1901:

Hah I usually ask people who have a problem with such things what they have against my grandma. She has always worn one while working.

It is not as common as it used to be even in rural Austria though and when my grandma wanted a new headscarf it was not easy to find the traditional farmers wife version. It something you wear while working to protect your hair not the fancy versions that are part of some traditional costumes(those are still relatively easy to find).

My sister travelled on the tube to Oxford Circus. She said it was a nightmarish crush with only 10-15% of people wearing a mask. Almost sent her into a panic attack.

What's the over/under for another lockdown? September? October?

Any chance we could refuse to accept her? (jk)

The cancellation was announced by the home affairs minister, Karen Andrews, on Monday and followed a decision by Endemol Shine Australia to cancel her contract to appear on Seven Network’s Big Brother VIP. Hopkins was then deported from the country on a Monday afternoon flight.

New South Wales police in a statement said Hopkins had been fined $1,000 for allegedly failing to wear a mask. The force said it had assisted immigration authorities to deport her on Monday afternoon to the United Kingdom.

Hopkins, 46, broadcast a live video from what she claimed was a Sydney hotel room on Saturday morning, describing Covid-19 lockdowns as “the greatest hoax in human history” while joking about elaborate plans to breach quarantine rules. In the Instagram video, which is no longer available to view, she said she was trying to “frighten” security guards by answering her hotel door naked and maskless.

Absolute fucking state of this creature. Gammons, this is the quality of the people you ally with. Are you proud?

The big question though is how the fuck she was allowed into Australia, when there are countless Australian citizens unable to return home due to restrictions.

A lot of angry Australians have been asking that question too. The answer of course is money:

Quote

"This does happen from time to time and actually it happens reasonably regularly, that state governments approach the federal government on the basis that there is an economic benefit to some people coming in over the quarantine caps," Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews said.

"She came in here on the basis of potential benefit to the economy."

Basically some TV producers thought she'd drive ratings and knew the right people to lobby.

We're not much better, in terms of allowing queue jumping by non-residents for money. But we never invited a reactionary who is all in on COVID conspiracies and freedom to infect just to be part of a reality show. We've let in whole film crews and actors so that filming of TV series and movies can happen. At least they all followed the quarantine rules.

Does she want people to blind themselves with a spoon as well as get COVID?

It depends on hospitalisations. Deaths are - probably - going to stay way down below the peak, but if the hospitalisations overwhelm the NHS, and several hospitals are already reporting being strained, that might be the tipping point for the government to reimpose certain restrictions.

I don't think they'll go for another lockdown but it seems unlikely that what they want to happen - the virus goes away on its own and things go back to normal with Johnson declaring mission accomplished and maybe calling an early election - will happen.

The government is also clearly concerned about Beta (aka the South African variant) getting loose in the UK, as it is much more resistant to vaccines. Fortunately it also appears to be harder to spread than any other variant.

All very optimistic, but ignores the scientists' biggest fears regarding Plague Island. They are basically saying that if you wanted to create the ideal conditions for a super-deadly, vaccine-resistant strain to emerge, you would do just what Johnson is doing.

Let's hope they are wrong.

Went to the shops this morning, everyone wearing masks. Watching buses go by.. everyone wearing mask. Walking down the road quite a few people wearing masks, still social distancing. Most surveys suggest well over half the population is really going to be keeping up these measures. Very little has actually changed today really, we’ve been open for quite some time, not sure how that could have escaped anyone’s notice.

Hopkins is really the worst kind of grifter, she’s an ‘outrage for hire’ scumbag mouthpiece and it’s not surprising she has exhausted pretty much avenue for herself in the Uk and had to leave to country to get any kind of work

It isn't a front for the cameras or fame either. My wife worked on a TV program with her and said she is just as much a cunt in real life.

Yeah in 1901.. and they didn’t have to ( I’m guessing that their hair was pretty grotty and wanted to hide / protect it)  plus it was probably bloody cold.

Women dressed that way because that was the morally acceptable way to dress. If they didn’t ‘dress modestly’ they would be subject to the opprobrium (not approbation) of their family, friends and neighbors. A woman in church without a head covering would be ordered out by the clergy, or women she knew would pass over handkerchiefs for her cover her head. This was still happening in the 60s when I went to church.

These restrictions were challenged by women in the early part of the 20th century, along with the right to vote. Women wore bloomers (what nasty women!) so they could ride bicycles. Horrifying! Women ripped off the bottoms of skirts and dresses so they wouldn’t get dragged in the dirt. In fact, one of the biggest influences on shortening skirt lengths was the emerging understanding of germs and what was in the dirt you carried into your house.

But don’t kid yourself about “choice”. Being immodestly dressed marked you as a slattern and probably a whore.

Just went to the local Co-Op and all the staff bar one had taken their masks off, and one of the cashiers was telling people with masks that "it's okay, you can take them off!", to general confusion. Someone else, a manger I think, intervened and said it was no longer a legal requirement but they were encouraging people to keep masks on as a precaution. It's clear the staff weren't really interested. I kept my mask on and used a self-service machine.

Guessing here you intended to type "subject to their family's "opprobrium", rather than approbation, which means exactly the opposite.

Also women who didn't wear gender-specified women's clothing -- even dragging carts on their hands and knees in the coal mines -- were committing a criminal offense and would be imprisoned.   In any case, it's always a buncha MEN decided what is correct, or proper, or improper, or not improper ENOUGH, to suit them, who run around ordering women to smile and wear spike heels or not to show their hair. Whatever.  When women choose whether or not to do or not to do whatever gets a man's panties in a twist, that's the real problem.  A lot of women CHOOSE the hajab, because they can and have many reasons for doing so, and -- yah, that's the problem here, amarite?

It’s amazing, she was on Apprentice wasn’t she? How she’s got this far is mind blowing , but actually the real reason she ever got anywhere was because she would say ever so edgy things that went against the ‘nicey nicey’ approach other presenters had. Just turns out that she was actually an even nastier person than that!

Pretty sure she got caught in a hidden camera thing where she said some shockingly racist stuff. Amazed more didnt come of that
