Fantasy Football 2021

Deebo and Cooper Kupp were some mid round WR draft picks that were potential league winners, or at least helped teams get into the playoffs.  Not sure how they did in the playoffs.  I think the top 3 WRs this year were gotten for cheap.

Cordarelle Patterson was also a league winning type pick up off the waivers.  He was listed as both a WR and RB this year in Yahoo, and was incredible in the fantasy regular season.  I picked him up for nothing after week 1 for both my teams, and his double designation allowed him to cover for byes and injuries for WR and RB.  Really helped my RB situation, which was very shaky for over half of the regular season.  He came back to earth in the playoffs, but I'm not sure I make it to the playoffs without him.

Yeah, was pretty surprised when I realized it.  Was drafting out of the 2 spot, and my first 8 picks were:

1 - Dalvin Cook
2 - Joe Mixon
3 - Kyler Murray
4 - Ceedee Lamb
5 - Justin Herbert
6 - Diontae Johnson
7 - Javonte Williams
8 - Ja'Marr Chase

Along with those guys, was starting Deebo (who I traded for early in the year) and Dawson Knox (who I picked up in September).

Javonte was the weak link in that group, and wasn't a regular starter for me.  Had Fournette playing over him for most of the last few months, but once he got injured, had to move Javonte into the lineup.

How the hell were you getting Chase in the 8th round?  He was going in the fourth or fifth in basically every league I'm in.

He was not getting a ton of good press around draft time so it's easy to see him fall in some leagues.

I made the playoffs in four out of the six leagues I was in, and it would have been five if my money league had a bye round (we play an extra week and then a four team playoff). That's not bad given I did zero prep this year and didn't make many waiver moves or trades. I also had some pretty rotten luck. My top three picks in my money league all missed multiple games, my best player on my best team went down for the season and like a lot of people Covid seriously fucked me over during the last few weeks. On top of that I kept getting burned with starters who were listed as a go 15 minutes before kickoff only to be out or not play at all. Oh well, two out of six teams were in first place at the start of the playoffs and my Dynasty team was insane even after Henry went down. A bit bummed about the B team falling apart right as the playoffs began and my Dynasty team catching a bad break in the finals, but overall it was a good year even if I seem to constantly be stuck in getting in 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the leagues here.

At least I'm still in first place in Pick'em.

I want it noted that I got screwed out of four points this past week. There's no way I didn't select the Seachickens to beat the Lions.

I would humbly suggest there is at least one way.

Well, I did OK this year.

Most expensive league, got 3rd for a break even.

2nd most, had regular season title (Jonathan Taylor keeper), and second place playoffs.  Positive return. Got Jamarr Chased in my second most expensive league.  What are going to do?

Next two leagues, lost the finals to my sister in the cousins's league.  First fantasy year for her, she mostly won because she wanted to draft Mahomes first round but couldn't find him in the player list until she already got Taylor and Ekeler autodrafted.  I was still a Ronald Jones injury or Adams/Rodgers touchdown away.  Bust still a plus.

Squeaked out a 3rd place in the casino poker player league, at least I beat the regular season win leader in the bronze game.

Missed the money in my cheapest cash league, but 4 keepers auction, 200 budget and will have Chase, Waddle, Elijah Moore, and Lance for $24 next year.

Also 4th or 5ht or so in experts and about the same in bwb league.

Might cut out 1-3 leagues next year, 7 is definitely too many.

Keep in mind, this is a league where we start 2 QB, 3 RB, and 4 WR.  And it's not PPR.  So QB and RB tend to get pushed up in the draft, and WR fall a bit.  Also, 10 teams, not 12, which might be a difference from your leagues.

That said, Chase was definitely the top player left on my board when I made that pick.

Looking at the Westeros leagues, which have the same format, the draft cost was pretty consistent across the board.  He was a 9th round pick in Westeros B.  And he cost $6 in Experts, $5 on W-A, and $3 in W-C.  Overall, people were just way too low on him and he was probably on a lot of winning teams (along with guys like Kupp and Deebo, like Mudguard mentioned above).

Around our draft times, which was after all the preseason games were played I think, the story around Chase was his problems with dropped passes.  He dropped a very large percentage of the passes thrown his way during the preseason, maybe around a 50% drop rate, but the sample size was very small.  I think he also missed a year of football between his last year playing in college and his rookie NFL season.  So there were some big question marks around him heading into the season.

If you drafted early, these stories might not have developed yet.  I think early drafts had him going around round 5, but later drafts had him going around 7-8.

Well, I have officially won my money dynasty league (well, one of them...I'm in three now).  I went two out of three in the finals I made, including a dominant 120 point victory in a fourteen team keeper league where Chase had seventy points and Penny and St. Brown added forty each for me.  The dynasty win was by a mere .85 points, but they all count the same and I'll be buying myself an expensive bottle of Scotch with a chunk of the winnings.

I'm thinking Springbank 18, which I believe runs around $250 in these parts.

2 2nds. 2 3rds.  5 money leagues.  Missed on the smallest one.  If Dak and Kyler got right sooner would have been 2nd in the big money league too and that delta would more than cover the other 4.  Alas.

Closer to $350 here.  I wish you luck on that quest though.

I think I've decided to do an online order instead and pass on the Springbank, as I've since found I can order from a UK site and get about three to four really good bottles of Scotch (Ledaig 18, Bunnahabhain 12 Cask Strength, Caol Ila 18, etc.) for about the same price even with the shipping.  Seems to be the way to go, especially since I can't find any of those bottles around here, and even if I could, it wouldn't be for anywhere close to what they sell for in the UK.

Hell, Ledaig and Caol Ila 18 online are only about ten bucks more than their 10 and 12 year counterparts here.  More like thirty when you factor in shipping, but that's still way cheaper than they'd be in a liquor store near me if they were actually carried.  Pretty sure that Ledaig would be well north of $150 here.
