They started off as a pseudo-mythology but pretty clearly became a much more complete history, but also, more to the point, may function like a mythology but are not it. The change in both function and, as I said, background context of the creation of the story, and of the details within it means thoughts can be applied to it that wouldn't be applicable to the original myths.

 

You basically addressed none of what I said. You just shouted strawman as if it meant something here. Whoops.

 

I'd have nothing against the rest of your idea also being implemented- , but that doesn't address the problems of the only-white Elves in the background Tolkien wrote.
