Guy Kilmore
Maybe it is the mental health professional part of me, and the whole stages of change people have to go through, but I think saying that this is about reasoning with people is missing how people process information. This is entirely an emotional response and an emotional trauma. It requires an emotional connection on an individual level. The problem is that those with their emotional acting out are inflicting real pain and trauma on others. They put themselves at serious risk to attempt to emotional connect with someone who, in effect, is acting as their abuser. It is us in positions of privilege to make those connects on an individual level when we can. People who have been victims of this aggression need to focus on healing. With that said, on a societal level, it is imperative to communicate intolerance for behaviors that remove people's basic right to personhood.
