Iskaral Pust
Nat Phillips did not attract a large enough bid, despite lots of rumors about replacing White at Brighton, so he got a contract renewal to stay as our 5th CB while Rhys Williams goes on loan to Swansea. I hope we aren’t setting up another Origi situation. He got a long renewal after this role in winning the CL, but never attracted any interest after that. They are now the 3rd power in Spain, which is probably a first since Cruyff joined as a coach, and maybe even when he joined as a player. Hell, even Sevilla is not that far behind them. Slightly shocking but hardly unexpected. Laporta has done well to get Griezmann off the books. Messi and Griezmann off the books clears a huge amount of wages. He's also convinced many others to accept wage cuts. It's a good start in trying to put right the years of mismanagement under Bartomeu. Plus Barca are in the fortunate position of there being a massive gap to the clubs competing for 5th place so they are practically guaranteed to finish top 4 and can count on CL revenue. Taking a trophy hit short term to ensure sustainability is absolutely worth it. More details on the Griezmann transfer: Atleti paid a €10m loan fee and will cover all of Griezmann's wages. The loan is for 1 year with an option to extend the loan for a further year and an obligation to buy for €40m.

And there are now a few youngsters (Nico Gonzalez, Gavi and of course Austria's Yussuf Demir) on their team, who look fairly promising. While it's very unlikely that one of them will turn out to be Messi 2.0, but at least there's potential of Barca getting its mojo back, with some hungry fresh faces instead of the failing marque signings of the Bartomeu era. Gavi is arguably the most Barca-esque player of them.

Consigliere
Koeman is a decent option for now. Barca have to do some belt tightening and Koeman isn't going to kick up a fuss over transfers. He's not top tier but also isn't an out-of-his-depth clueless manager either and he's committed to giving the academy players a chance.

l2 0 5 5
I like the Saul move. We got a Jorginho and Kante scare against Liverpool. Just Kovacic behind them with Gilmour on loan. A necessary move and not a bad buy option either. Speaking of Kante he left the French squad due to the ankle injury he aggravated Saturday. Glad cooler heads prevailed. Thought Deschamps was gonna run him into the ground this week.

baxus
Crowding the calendar like this is bound to cause a major reaction, sooner or later. Super league was a rather clumsy attempt of doing that, but if UEFA/FIFA keep behaving the way they do, it's only a matter of time before supporters get onboard for some other Super League attempt in the future. polishgenius
If international federations keep over-pushing international football, at some point the clubs that actually make the sport go round are gonna push through the changes needed to make them not have to release players for internationals anymore. Mr. Chatywin et al.
Just heard that tonight in the US-El Salvador WC qualifying match that they’re letting fans in eight and a half hours before the match starts so they can get good and properly hammered. That seems like a bad idea, lol.
Consigliere
The England/Hungary game was pretty dull in the 1st half. England didn't create much either. But once the first goal went in, the floodgates have opened and Hungary are being carved open. With a little better finishing, England would be 5 or 6 nil up. ljkeane
Interesting article on Salah's penalty taking technique in the Athletic today. He's scored 17 straight in all competitions for Liverpool so you'd think he's doing something special but not really actually. He doesn't wait to react to what the keeper's doing, he just takes his shot. Given that you'd assume he's consistently picking out the corners but, again, not really. He just consistently hits the target and mostly goes to the left or down the middle, which you'd expect for a left footed player, and smashes the ball in. When you watch penalty shoot outs I think there's a bit of a tendency for players to overthink it, especially from the non regular penalty takers, if you get a decent shot on target the keeper is probably going to struggle to save it. A Horse Named Stranger
In other news. There was a membership of my club, and as a result we now have female quota on all the governing bodies of the club of at least 30%. That's the executive board, the supervisory board, the honour council (that thing basically decides, whether somebody violated the principles of the clubs and thus should have their membership suspended, or being kicked out of the club, not sure what the English language equivalent in your clubs is), the electoral commission. For that to take effect it required a majority of three fourths of the vote to make the changes to the club charter, which was easily met (and exceeded actually). There were also a few other changes voted on, going forward our five executive board members (which is basically still an honory appointment) will be supplemented by four paid full time members, who (will be elected to serve for four years) to aid them in their work. Which I think is probably an overdue necessity.
