No Time to Die (spoilers)

As said before, music is entirely subjective. This, bad guy & lovely are all good songs to me. Getting into an 'objectively bad' debate, especially with Ty is not something I'm going to do lol.

As an aside, I think Zimmer's scorer wasn't the best. Very little memorable stuff on the soundtrack.

Travis Scott is also 10/10.

Defo strong 'get off my lawn' vibes here  ( Which is fine, we don't all have to like the same music lol. We're not 15)

Ty is right. This is shite. Probably the worst Bond tune since that Chris Cornell bollocks.

Hey, now. I unapologetically really like You Know My Name. :)

I've always liked how it's a dialog between Bond and some upstart thinking he's has an advantage.

I love You Know my Name. Even though it's very different from the traditional style of a Bond song, the lyrics are just so perfect for Bond.

"The coldest blood runs through my veins, you know my name"

Count me in on You Know My Name being one of my top favorites for Bond songs.  There are times that I have watched the BluRay of that movie and would rewind to watch that again.

Yeah I have to say Casino Royale is a great bond movie but has one of the worst title sequences and songs of the entire series

Which should be the point, who cares if the song is lame so long as the actual movie is good.

But regarding the intro and song, would people rather have a banger of a song and a lame intro or vice versa if those were your only two options?

The conversation literally hasn’t progressed from this. I’ve enjoyed all the Craig themes except the Spectre one.

The more I think about it, the more I think that Safin was a real waste of a character. Unclear on his motivation but also his plan in general. Still a good film though.

They should have used the Radiohead one!

Yeah, I got his motivation and plan re: spectre, less so regarding everything beyond that point.

I literally forgot this existed. Possibly one of the worst bond themes ever?

Agreed.

Which is surprising considering the fact that Alicia Keys is one of the most talented artists performing, writing, producing in the industry. And I say this acknowledging I personally don't care for many of her songs. My taste doesn't detract from her talent. This song was just underwhelming.

Decided I should see it in the cinema, so skived off work on a weekday to see an afternoon show.  Since the plot has already been spoiled for me, perhaps the film didn't have the same impact for me/on me as it did for others.

Safin's inexplicable motivation for his plan for worldwide killings was a huge plot hole for me, and I didn't think Malik was particularly good as Safin in any case.  Whenever I see him on screen in anything, it just looks like Freddy Mercury.  It was good to see Daniel Craig be able to expand his range of emotion in a Bond movie, rather than just be a cold-hearted bastard (as Vesper described him in CR).

All the necessary elements for a classic Bond film were there, but they didn't seem to stack up to so that the whole was greater than their sum.

I think it could have been an easy fix.  Tell us that Safin's dad is a leftover Soviet Eugenicist.  SPECTRE offed his dad because even they don't believe in wiping out the world.  Safin wants to finish his dad's work.  Done.

My better half and I finally went to Harkins to see this final Bond flick.  The best part of the film was Ana de Armas, who was terrific.  Let's have her as the next Bond, please.

The title song was lousy, one of the worst.  As a Bond film, though, it was pretty good, although I agree with the plot hole comments above.  The references and allusions to previous films were fine, and the inversion of OHMSS was good.  Nice to see both AMs, too.

I like Seydoux, but I agree that she and Craig don't have much chemistry, which is too bad.  Craig was an above-average Bond despite having a couple of stinkers in terms of plot.  My personal pyramid of Bond is:

Connery

Craig - Dalton

Roger Moore - Lazenby - Remington Steele

And the guys at the bottom are only there because of the TERRIBLE plots and direction of the majority of the films they were in, plus Lazenby for not being Connery.

I had a problem with the final scene of sorrow for Bond's passing.  What about the other 200 people that got killed in the film - nobody cares about them?

Finally, the subsidiary bad guys - there were too many of them.  Either have Mormon missionary or Cyclops, but not both, as combining their cumulative actions into a single character would have made a slender, but useful, villain.  Two of them made the characters just too small.

Finally managed to see this now, although it was quite a broken up viewing experience over 2 nights. I don't know if that affected the way I experienced it but it did really feel like a movie of two halves.

I found that first half really enjoyable. I loved that it seemed to find a good balance of gritty action and cheeky over the top bond gadgetry. Normally a machine gun in a car would make my eyes roll but it did seem to fit somehow. All of the action sequences were engaging up to a point and it really did feel like for once the movie had managed to hit the mark of what a Bond movie should feel like.

Second half seemed to be a different matter however. Once the plot of mass destruction came into play and Safin was more prominent it tended to just become bogged down in the weaknesses of the other movies. It might be a function of not watching it the whole way through but I was often trying to remember why they were doing things and what peoples relationships were. It also felt just on the wrong end of silly, even if I appreciated it harkening back to the previous bonds stylistically.

Either way I had some thoughts:

- The whole hoo haw about the new 007 seems completely over the top, but at the same time its hard to see what that added to the plot? Was it done as a stunt to drum up publicity, get the internet talking about a Bond franchise people had forgotten about. It did all feel a little tacked on, and she really wasn't fleshed out at all. Its hard to say that she has any describable characteristics other then smart one liners and shooting people.

- Its a massive shame that Ana De Armas wasn't in it more, because not only is she incredibly hot, she was really great to watch, and brought a real energy to the role. Probably the most interesting character in the movie.

- On the other hand Madeline was a bit of a weakness. Here is also another issue with the movie. It seems to expect me to remember anything about previous Bond movies. Unfortunately they have been utterly forgettable, especially Spectre. I literally had to google whether her character was the one I vaguely remembered from Spectre, and when it was it was a good thing because her relationship with Bond doesn't feel especially strong.

- I basically knew Bond was dead going in, so it wasn't all that shocking. But Craig put in a great performance towards the end. I never loved his Bond, but I don't really think that was his fault. This time he at least looked like he cared.

- The question is what they do next. I'm hoping they don't do anything stupid like 'the new 007' or 'daughter of Bond' as a replacement for the movies. Fine as a spin off, especially when they fail, but I'd say just give it a rest for now. Forget Bond. Wait for a new trend in movies to turn up that you can jump on the back of and copy, like they did with Bourne.

Are you talking about the hoo ha of a new 007 in the movie or outside?

In universe, it made sense. Bond retired and M gave his jersey number to a new player. Bond coming back confused things. It'd be like the Bulls giving the number 23 to a new player when Jordan retired to play baseball, but then he returned to basketball a few years later. He'd feel attached to number 23.

Outside the movie? Yeah, just people complaining before seeing the movie.
