It was everywhere, and I suspect it was done to create a buzz about the movie, even bad press is good press. But it was almost a total irrelevance to the story overall. It was like 'yeah here is the new 007'.. which elicited a total shrug from Bond. It's not like there was any sort of rivalry or reaction from him to the situation. It all came from her.
