Eh, that's debatable. In 2017 he got hurt after a slow start, in 2018 he was okay and the team stunk and in 2019 they had a good record, but it was another season where he was just okay. 2020 was the aberration, and this year again he looks more like he did 17-19 than he did in 2016 or 20. He's still really good, but he's far off pace from his peak years. That he still doesn't turn the ball over or make many costly mistakes is what is keeping him as a top tier QB, but the guy I've feared for most of the last decade just isn't there anymore night in and out.

ETA: The mistake wasn't drafting his potential replacement, it's that the guy they took appears to be thoroughly unimpressive.

Was anyone other than the Packers front office impressed with Jordan Love?

Its not like the situation with Rodgers where he was a potential #1 overall pick that tumbled down the draft board.

I think he was viewed as a potential late first/early second round pick who would need to sit for a year or two. The Packers weren't necessarily wrong to start planning for the post-Rodgers era, but trading up for the guy without consulting Rodgers was obviously going to cause friction. They should have done what the Bucs did in a similar situation. Trask was viewed by some as being in the same boat Love was, and the Bucs let him fall to them and told Brady what they were thinking about before drafting him and he gave them his blessing. That's how you treat an all-time great and it's kind of pathetic that the Bucs knew what to do with a guy who had just been there for a year while the Packers couldn't do right by a guy who's spent a decade and a half with the team.

Dirty Vikings hit with roughing call on Rogers go ahead touchdown!!

He also called a TO before the play started and the refs let it go after the defense completely stopped. Such bullshit.

Damn Vikings having a real cardiac season with all these last second decisions.

They really need to stop blowing big leads late in games and creating these nail biters.

Going to be spending the week in Cali with a bunch of Packers fans. Going to throw a few jerseys in my bag now just because.

it will be really interesting to see how Cleveland handles his contract going forward. As fan of a division rival team I sincerely hope they overpay him.

I'd prepare to be disappointed.  The Browns front office is too smart to give a massive extension to a guy that's currently playing like Mayfield is.  Unless he starts playing every game like he did the back half of last year, odds are he'll be back next year on his fifth year option unless he's willing to take a much more team friendly deal than he is likely gunning for.

Just look at the guys the Browns have extended since Andrew Berry took over:

Myles Garrett - Arguably the best EDGE in the league, and a current frontrunner for DPOY.

Nick Chubb - Arguably the best RB in the league, and currently tied for the NFL's all-time yards per carry.  He also signed a relatively team-friendly deal that was probably less than he could have gotten on the open market.

Kareem Hunt - A top ten to fifteen RB who signed a team-friendly deal due to his (at the time) off the field issues.  He's from Cleveland as well, and provides the Browns with a way to manage Chubb's reps and extend his career.

Joel Bitonio - Consistently one of the league's best guards and a guy who the team has flat out stated that they want to retire a Brown.

Wyatt Teller - PFF's number one offensive lineman last year and one of their top-rated lineman this year as well.  They waited to see if last year was a fluke, it wasn't, and so they paid the man.

It's pretty clear that the Browns are only interested in extending guys that are performing at an incredibly high level, and if they're willing to take a bit less money to stay in Cleveland, all the better.  Baker doesn't fit that trend at the moment.  He can't play the Bengals every week, sadly.  Does he still think Hue Jackson works for y'all?
