Clever foreshadowing

Here’s some foreshadowing you might appreciate:

Quote

“A shadow emerged from the dark of the wood. It stood in front of Royce. Tall, it was, and gaunt and hard as old bones, with flesh pale as milk.” (Prologue, AGOT)

Here, the word-smith, Martin forging at his iron-desk with a quill and inkwell as his hammer and forge; after dipping his quill, is cleverly placing the “shadow” into the foreground “in front of Royce.” alerting readers that something will be happening alluding to future plot. This is the artistry of Martin’s style. A shadow in the foreground, foreshadow. Paying close attention to the rest of the passage we see a description of the “shadow”

Ideas about this foreshadowing:)??

I feel like this duel is foreshadowing the duel we don’t see in the next chapter between the stag and the direwolf.

Also in Waymar’s duel think there’s some figurative language giving some clues to some different ideas. When Waymar is injured there this line where fire is used as a metaphor for blood.

Quote

It steamed in the cold, and the droplets seemed read as fire where they touched the snow. (AGOT, Prologue)

In the quote it says that it “seemed” red as fire. “Seemed” is used because it only appeared that way in Will’s mind. To his eyes it was actually black. In science, they called this the Purkinje effect.

So I read this as the blood, like fire, being black. And black fire on a sword is likely symbolic of the sword Blackfyre.
