Terrorthatflapsinthenight9 Posted December 7, 2021 Share Posted December 7, 2021 If it had been a surviving Ned Stark as the Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North, or Robb as the King in the North who had been the one to deal with Mance Rayder and his people at the end of ASOS, how do you think that Ned or Robb would have tried to solve the wildlings' problem ? How would they likely have reacted upon hearing about the Others and them being responsible for the Free Folks rushing to the south ? How would they likely have tried to resolve the issue of the Free Folks, how to end their conflict with the Night's Watch and the North and where to settle them ? The free folk have strong beliefs and they will chip away at authority. It’s not something that can be allowed to spread in Westeros. Ned and Robb will push them back out. I can't see either Stark not meeting the wildlings with all deliberate force. Myths and fairytales about the Others will be dismissed until there's irrefutable truth, which the Starks aren't going to try too hard to find. To be fair, neither Gared, nor the wildlings were where they were with the intention of bringing news of the Others. Gared could not give a coherent account of what had happened and if giving a warning had been his purpose, he should have gone to Mormont first. As for Robb, he found the wildling "refugees" when they were very seriously attacking a child, his brother, who was completely unable to defend himself. It's not surprising Robb didn't start by asking why they hadn't stayed behind the Wall. Later Osha tried to warn Robb, but it was not the right moment and she did not count as a trustworthy person at the time.
