What will be Daenerys' impressions of Westeros, its regions and its peoples once she finally arrives here ?

Recommended Posts

What do you imagine that Daenerys' thoughts and impressions of Westeros, of its kingdoms and of its people, nobles, religious people and smallfolk alike will be once she finally leaves Essos and arrives in Westeros ?

What should her thoughts of each of the regions, cities and of their populations ?

What should be her feelings toward and understanding their cultures and religions, such as the Faith of the Seven, the Old Gods' worship and the Drowned God religion ?

How much surprised and shocked will she be ? How much will her beliefs and expectations will be validated or shaken ? Will she be thrilled or disappointed ?

Will she manage to understand the westerosis or will be it another big misunderstanding and values clash like with the Slavers Cities and new ghiscari culture ?

Westeros will be covered in a deep blanket of ice when she arrives.  The Westeros of King Viserys III will be gone.  The White Walkers and the wights will have killed most living things.  So all of the political hurdles that the Dany haters just love to make up and invent will not be present.  Cultural differences are not going to come into play because just about everybody in Westeros will be dead, wighted, or both.

Daenerys is the leading protagonist of ASOIAF and Slaver's Bay will be resolved in a satisfactory manner.  She has discipline and intelligence, unlike Jon Snow and Robb Stark.  She will not screw up the way those two idiots did.

Your fanfic is nice, but I like the story George R. R. Martin is telling better.

Dany will come to Westeros because the people will beg for her help.  She is the only one who can heal and unite the people.  She will be well-informed about the conditions in Westeros before she ever sets sail to reclaim her inheritance.  Westeros will have very few people left alive.  The people who were once the slaves of the Ghiscari will be the ones to repopulate Westeros.

I think she will be disappointed. All of her thoughts and opinions of Westeros come from stories told by Viserys, Barristan and Jorah. Most of these stories focus on the beautiful and the good.  Dany has lived all of her life thinking Westeros is her and Viserys'  brithright. Her whole life has revolved around returning to Westeros and reclaiming what was stolen from her by people she sees as evil and treacherous. She thinks the smallfolk will cry out for her in joy and welcome her with open arms.

So when she arrives to a land exhausted by war with an army of unsullied and Dothraki (who pillage and rape wherever they go), her whole concept of Westeros will be turned upside down. Most of the Houses will not support her either (at least, when she just arrives). The way she treated Quentyn will have consequences and she will face scorned Dornishmen.  When in Westeros, she will fight people with legitimate claims and reasons (and not slavers of Slavery's Bay- a region that had no moral grayness to it prior to her conquest). I predict she will have the power to conquer, but it doing so will make her emotionally empty.

I am intrigued to see how Martin handles this. It would be interesting to read how Dany finally reaches a something she has been working towards her entire life only to find it completely different than the stories or childish fantasies. It might even make her feel like her whole life and everything she has done, has been completely worthless (since the Westerosi do not want her as their ruler). It could be the breaking point of her character arc (the same way Tyrion finding about Tysha and killing Tywin was his breaking point).

They did not.

Right.  That's not exactly a focus on the beautiful and good.

That was Viserys' delusion, encouraged by Illyrio.

The Houses will be a political problem and the Dothraki a moral one, but neither will turn her concept of Westeros upside down.

This seems to be a popular idea, but I don't understand it.  She treated him well and had nothing to do with his death.  I guess the is inspired by Gerris' over-the-top performance.  But it IS a performance.  Even Gerris does not believe what he says
