Is Mr Martin the sort who could say one afternoon "It came to a head today honey and you finally ran me through" or does he have to include a happy ending for him and his wife to avoid facing burnt suppers and nights on the sofa for the next couple of weeks? I don't think they will both be alive by the end, Jaime is gonna die and Brienne will survive and be pregnant, the seeds of the future have to be showed by the end of the last book.
