I wonder if the rocketing cost of basic foodstuff been seen elsewhere in Europe, or is it just here?

i.e. Is this shit really caused by Brexit, or is it actually due to Covid and general supply chain issues?

Going up. Last year inflation rate for Germany was 3.1% highest rise since 1993 (4.5%).

Britain obviously has another problem with Brexit on top of the global supply chain issues.

If you want a front line view of Brexit. I'll link the twatter account of Ciaran the van driver (who called out Ress-Smug on LBC radio during the referendum capaign) below. Looks like absolute insanity, which will be getting worse mid-year.

Inflation figures are a bit unreliable right now because 2020 was such an odd year with low fuel prices and a reduced VAT (in Germany). It will probably take another year before we know what's really going on. Disrupted supply chains and rising energy prices will have an impact, though. The European central bank's policy to keep interest rates low will probably lead to a lower exchange rate relative to the Dollar, which will also push up consumer prices.

He's going to meet with the police to discuss his blackmail claims. I really really hope he has evidence.

Hope so too, because there’s fat fucking chance the Met will go looking for any, where the government’s concerned.

He has his testimony. As far as I am aware, that still counts as evidence in this country.

ETA: Thought you were talking about Wakeford. Because he's the one that needs to be talking to the police.

The police aren't going to do anything.

Blackmail, like fraud, corruption, racism, drug use, and a host of other crimes, is only bad if done by poor people, or if you're so blatant about it that it can't be written off as 'just how these things work, don't be so naive'.

Not sure if I should go with the "like" or the "sad" reaction for this one, because it's so very true.

I can see the dilemma for many Muslims. They are, by and large, a morally conservative group of people, though the economic principles of Islam (like those of Jesus) lean more socialist (well-being of the collective > well-being of the individual). However it appears a lot of people vote more according to their moral leanings than their economic principles. So a lot of Muslims will gravitate towards conservatism, yet on balance islamophobes tend to occupy the right of the political spectrum. I guess people of all various minorities find prejudice almost everywhere they go, so if getting into the political sphere you have to just go with what your own conscience and philosophy tells you and try to get past the prejudice that rises from those with whom you choose to ally.

Still really sucks when it's thrown in your face like is alleged by Nusrat Ghani.

Lol.

No 10 staff have swipe card data logged in probe of ‘partygate’

Rumours have also been circulating in government in recent days that Gray may have details of yet another gathering in Downing Street, possibly in the PM’s flat and involving close friends of his wife, that has not yet come to light. Discovery of a 10th get-together when Covid restrictions were in place would seriously undermine Johnson’s attempts to survive the crisis.

Cheerio, Bozo, cheerio.

I guess rather than say she wasn't sacked for being Muslim, say why she was sacked if it is indeed a credible reason. There is never really a need to deny a false reason for something if the true reason is something else completely.

What credible reason? Competence, honesty and integrity are hardly qualifications for this cabinet.
Gavin Williamson was previously sacked for allegedly leaking info. Priti Patel was previously sacked for unauthorised meetings with Israeli officials.

People seem really upset today about some minor alterations to the Highway Code. Lol.

Common myths about what UK Highway Code changes will mean

Something needs to be done about these feckin' motorised scooters. A few weeks ago, I saw a young chap sent absolutely flying when some twat on a scooter crashed into him, at speed, outside my local post office.

Motorised vehicles travelling 25-30MPH on the pavement. With no insurance. Why the fuck are we still waiting for this issue to be addressed ?

I offer my staff incentives to seize scooters. Fucking hate them.

Most of the complaints seem to be about clarifying things that were in the rules anyway but the people complaining had never bothered to read the existing rules so they assume these are radical changes. It's a scenario familiar to every update to refereeing guidance in football.

Others involve recognising that a car is a potentially lethal weapon that needs to be handled with a great deal of care for other road users and that accidents can happen to anyone, without the 'but not me 'cos I'm a really good driver and I'm in a hurry' qualifier that so many drivers insert mentally when they're behind the wheel. I can see why those are unpopular with some.

Just drive responsibly, people. There's not a thing in there that should cause you an issue if you do that.

Also, I knew about these changes weeks ago. There was a publicity campaign in the press, on Twitter, everything.

First I heard of this was some gammony raging on twitter this morning.

UK bike lanes are often white lines semi randomly scattered about on roads at the behest of local councillors who have never ridden a bike in their lives but want to boast about their "cycle friendly policies". These tend to be death traps that have cars parked in them, are widely ignored by other road users, and disappear whenever they would actually be useful (i.e. when the road narrows or at road junctions). Such bike lanes are often best ignored.

(To be fair, not all are like that, there are some good ones about.)
