Will Edric Storm team up with Dany?

Recommended Posts

Last we heard of Edric Storm, he was hiding out in Lys after being smuggled away by Davos. Westeros is currently being run by people who want to do him harm: his uncle Stannis, who wants to sacrifice him to the Lord of Light, and Cersei, who wants to kill him because he is one of Robert's bastards. Aegon has already left Essos and landed in Westeros, where he plans to challenge the Lannisters and Tyrells for the Iron Throne. But what about Daenerys?

If Edric wants to ever return home to the Stormlands, he needs the protection of a ruler strong enough to overpower his many enemies. Daenerys hates the Baratheons, but Edric was not alive at the time of Robert's Rebellion, and he has no reason to support his last remaining uncle. Edric is described as both handsome and charismatic, and can relate to Dany's childhood as an exile. Dany could use Edric to rally the Stormland houses to her cause, challenging Aegon's hold on the kingdom.

There is the matter of what risks would come with legitimizing Edric. As Robert's son, he could in turn become an obstacle to her own path to the throne, but that might be a risk Dany is willing to take during the Dance 2.0, especially if Edric is able to win her trust and publicly declare his support. (This could also be where the show got the idea of Dany legitimizing Gendry from).

Lastly, there is the possibility of a marriage alliance. I find it unlikely, since Dany's path will likely lead her to Jon Snow instead, but there's no denying that marrying the charismatic son of Robert Baratheon would be a great way to consolidate their claims and win over more allies. For all we know, Edric may even be able to ride a dragon thanks to his Targaryen heritage.

What are your thoughts?

Davos sent Edric to safety out of his concern for the lad's well-being.  It's not because Edric has anything to offer politically.  He is a bastard.  A bastard has little political clout.  Daenerys may take Edric in out of pity and because she is a decent human being like Davos.  Politics is not going to be the motivation.  Daenerys Targaryen already have enough luminaries on her side.  Edric will be another convert who will throw in and support Daenerys.  Westeros will be very divided.  Many will flock to Daenerys and support her claim.  An equal number will resist the one-kingdom plan that she brings.  The north, for example, will want their independence from the Andal south.  Dorne wants war with the Lannisters.  The Starks want to slaughter the Freys.  Daenerys' goal will be the unification of Westeros.  Those mentioned will oppose it.  Edric, Barristan, Jorah, Tyrells, probably *Gilly too, Asha Greyjoy, and a formidable armed forces will support Daenerys.

*Gilly - will make it to Meereen and learn about the world beyond the North.  She will represent the Free Folk in Daenerys Targaryen's court.

Teaming up would imply he brings something to the table for her. Beyond his blood(not even his name) he really doesn't. Assuming he comes into her power, there's little to lose for her by keeping him around(though killing the Usurper's son could possibly tempt her) and if he seems like he's devoted to her he could be useful in a post conquered(liberated?) Stormlands.

So essentially I think the extent of their "teaming up" would be Dany putting him in storage against the possibility of him being useful later.

If Aegon is sitting on the throne once Dany reaches Westeros, chances are he’ll have the support of most of the Stormland houses. There’s also a good chance that Stannis will be dead by then. Edric is the spitting image of his father, who was beloved, and is said to have inherited his charisma. If the Storm lords flock to him (especially if JonCon is the new lord paramount and is resented for it) he could unite those houses behind Dany.

I think there's a big possibility that we either never hear from Edric ever again or we do so after all the fighting is almost done... it would have been different if Edric was , say, in Pentos or Volantis instead of Lys.

I guess I don't see the reason the Stormlords would be unenthusiastic towards (f)Aegon's puppet but enthusiastic towards Dany's puppet. They'd be serving a dragon all the same.

Because he'll likely be the only Baratheon left. We've seen how badly the North wants a Stark--any Stark--to retake Winterfell. Baratheon loyalists would prefer Edric to, say, a Connington or an Estermont.

It would be funny seeing their dynamic. Dany hates Robert with passion, Edric idolizes Robert with passion and neither of them were around enough to know him.

Barristan owes those two a long history lesson. It's fated.

I don't think he makes it tho, the Baratheons are poised to be destroyed like the Targaryen, only Robert's bastard line will live on.

If Edric gets a hold of a dragon, he better love Dany a lot because he wouldn't need her anymore.

He does, he's well loved, he wins people easily and he resemblance young Robert.

Not everything is in key of armies. He's a better asset than Tyrion.

Stannis was willing to legitimize Jon and use him to rally the North to his cause exactly under the same premise.

Edric doesn't have a positive opinion of his uncle.  He could simply swear his support for Dany and serve her.  Not that it will have much weight because he is a bastard.  But he can be her source of information about the Baratheons.  With Jorah, Gillie, Barristan, Marwyn, Tyrion, and Edric in her service, Dany will have a complete encyclopaedia of the happenings in Westeros.

Edric is too young at the moment.  He is only an expat living in the Free Cities.  It would do good to have him grow up with Dany's cupbearers so that the children of Meereen will have a different perspective besides what they got from their parents.  It is helpful for children to have socialization with their own age group.  I see the beginnings of an Empire.  People with experience in many cultures, including Dany herself, are in her circle.

Edric is about the same age as Sansa, so he’s probably older than the other cupbearers.

Chances are pretty good that this will happen and it will definitely help Dany's cause in Westeros. We know Aegon will take Storm's End, but once he moves on to KL he will name a new Lord of Storm's End (or possibly even before that), and that lord won't be a Baratheon.

Robert's son could easily be a focal point for a movement to take the Stormlands and Storm's End away from Aegon's followers.

For Edric and his people Dany will be their only ticket back home.

There will be no team up . Good intentions tends to run into political machinations . The Mad King's daughter and the  bastard son of the Usurper . He would be killed either by Darrio or Hizdahr or swallowed by a dragon . We like Dany , but we know that Jon Con plans to destroy the house of Baratheon .There isn't any proof that she or those advising her would not do the same .

Yes and let us not be hasty about his current worth.  Edric is worth not a whole lot at the moment but let us say Stannis' borrowed loot comes his way.  Stannis is dead after all.  Stannis' errand boy is unlikely to commit to a bastard but stranger things have happened.  Edric comes to the Queen and humbly asks for help.  He doesn't want the throne but wants Storm's End instead.  He offers a chest of gold.  It's not much in the scale of things but it is still something to consider.  Daenerys has nothing to lose.

Edric is an exile with little to his name.  Should Dany accept him, he will grow up around Missandei.  The boy will be changed forever.  Any thoughts of the Baratheons will be but a distant memory.  I do not think Dany will legitimize him until he is fully grown and proves his loyalty to her.

If George is able to stick to the seven-book plan, then I suspect Edric and Dany will have a purely political alliance. If he decides to make the series longer, then I could see a marriage alliance happening, especially if Jon ends up getting together with Val. It would be bad news for both Edric and Val though, since it would mean neither of them are likely long for the world.

As RObert's bastard, Gendry may have a bigger role in the story than Edric. I think having Edric in the picture was to solely demonstrate Stannis's intention to burn someone with king's blood. It's a set up for burning shireen. I'm not sure we will hear too much about Edric in the future.
