(Saturday or Sunday) Hey Americans, shouldn’t it be common sense that any law that is passed that stops tens of thousands of legitimate votes from being counted, in order to a prevent a few hundred possible fraudulent votes from being counted, is non-democratic? (Saturday or Sunday) There are lots of people who have to work on Saturday or Sunday, and I would guess more of those are lower income people than people who work Monday through Friday. So I would prefer there to be safeguards put into place that would require employers to give workers time off on election day with no repercussions, no matter what day of the week it is. Long rundown about it in the WaPo, with many more details, but it still makes no sense. Everyone still running about with hands in air, "O a mistake, how could this have happened, didn't mean, this was wrong, don't understand." Perhaps, very subtly, the piece suggests the real culprit is the woman's husband, with whom she had two boys, upon whom she served divorce papers shortly before she was reported by somebody -- who? -- as inducing an abortion? Other individuals are always at liberty to prosecute when they so choose. The woman of course, has no right to choose for herself. SPIT. If we are going to limit the franchise to in person ballots we should absolutely get the day off to vote. But Republicans would prefer to make voting difficult. Even more to the point such laws targeting anybody for criminal action around abortion are unlawful -- other than someone attempting to FORCE her to abort, by kicking or other means. Looking it up and..yep, the Harris County DA, Kim Ogg, only won reelection by about 8 points in 2020. (Couldn't quickly find any information on the Tarrant County DA elections. ETA: Just found it, and Tarrant County's DA - Sharen Wilson - had a similarly close election in 2018..and she's a Republican.) That's significantly closer than the comfortable margins the signees won by in their last elections in Dallas, Bexar (San Antonio), and Travis (Austin). The profile in courage would be signee Mark Gonzalez, the Nueces County (Corpus Christi) DA who only won in 2020 by 2.4%, or under three thousand votes. I was primarily interested in big cities, as they're gonna tend to skew Democrat anywhere in the country, even Texas. The counties of Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Austin all have populations over a million, whereas Starr County has a population of about 66 thousand. Looking at a *lot* of ticked off shoppers: 'It's getting worse,' frustration rising over truck backlogs at Texas-Mexico border (msn.com) The delays are all due to additional safety inspections mandated by Governor Greg Abbott of trucks bringing products into the United States. Normally it would take trucks 30 to 40 minutes to cross the border. But it is taking some closer to 12 hours. The chokepoint in international commerce is causing a lot of concern for an already broken supply chain in the country. One trucking and logistics company told CBS 11 about the damage the situation is causing their business. "Today we had one shipment, it got there at 5:30 in the morning.
