I'm pretty much exclusively pro-union, but the fact that the NFLPA is going to the mat for Watson (their argument is that since Robert Kraft, Jerry Jones, and Dan Snyder weren't punished for comparable offenses then Watson can't be either) makes me sick.

I mean I get that the union has an obligation to defend its members from relative injustices from the employing entity, but ick

Agreed. Technically they have to, but no one would fault them if they just keep losing that damn paperwork. Going to the mat for him is gross.

No, free speech and right to assembly (even as a Nazi) is guaranteed to every citizen, no matter how heinous their beliefs.

Right to rape is not.

Yet.

I understand the NFLPA's position, obligated to defend players from the league, but it disturbs me greatly when the excuse is 'well, you didn't punish that guy...'

If feels almost too on the nose a reflection of the past seven years.

Way to entirely miss the point...and then immediately express it yourself:

Seems there's some truth to this. I hope the NFL goes through with it:

Imo he deserves a lifetime ban. The complete lack of contrition on top of everything he's accused of and likely did is just too much for any sane company to tolerate.

Would an indefinite ban void his contract?  It was fully guaranteed, but what happens if he is banned.

I can't imagine he will get a full ban.  He will be back at some point.   Ray Lewis killed someone and he is now in the HOF.

Oh, and just to be clear, he deserves to be banned.  I just don't think it will happen or if it does, he will be back at some point after appealing.

I had kinda forgotten to follow Rita Oak on Twitter and I have missed several of her Jimmy G drawings.  Today an article on ESPN popped up about her and it reminded me.  There’s a great South Park themed one that Kittle actually now uses as his profile picture.

But I definitely had a laugh at this one:

ESPN Insider had an article on the ten best edge rushers.  Nick Bosa clocked in at third (Joey was fourth) behind Watt and Garrett, respectively.  Thought this tweet and quote were pretty awesome:

Quote

When it comes to double-teams off the edge, there's Bosa ... and then there's everyone else. Bosa was facing doubles on nearly 30% of his snaps in 2021 and still posted 15.5 sacks and a 23.0% pass rush win rate, eighth in the NFL. He finished the year at 26% double-teams, tops among this list.

Wasn't that the chart that if you include the times that Donald rushes from the edge, that he's like off the charts better than everyone else?  Like he was doubled 60% of the time and still had a win rate of 25%?

Just skimmed some headlines so I don't know for sure ( but suspect it's so ), I think the sportsbooks currently have BUFFALO as favorites to win the SB.

Haven't seen that in my lifetime, that I can recall.

Eta: Eh here it is folks-

The current favorites to win Super Bowl 2023 is the Buffalo Bills at +650, followed by the Buccaneers +750, Chiefs +900, and Packers +1200. The defending champs, the Los Angeles Rams, have the fifth-best odds (or fourth depending on the sportsbook) at +1100.

That's what I was criticizing about that chart when it was posted - I was pretty sure most of Donald's double teams came from the inside, not the edge, which is qualitatively different, and that's why Donald was such an outlier on that chart.  Considering Donald isn't even on the chart I just posted, pretty sure that assumption was correct.

"All parties split the financials to make it happen" is kind of weird phrasing.  I'm assuming that just means the Browns are picking up half his salary -- or does it mean Mayfield himself is picking up a third of his own salary?

Mayfield ate around three million to make it happen, although I think he can earn that money back via incentives.

Also, the pick is a fifth that can turn into a fourth based on playing time.

Ah, so it was all parties.  Interesting, thanks.

That deal is very surprising.  Do the Browns know something we don't about Watson?  Because it still seems very likely/certain that Watson is going to miss at least half the season, if not the entire year.  So why the rush to get rid of Mayfield?  Who is the current backup (ie week 1 starter) in Cleveland?

Also, a 5th (maybe 4th) rounder for Mayfield?  Yikes.  The market for him must have been a lot worse than I anticipated.  It is hard to believe that Carson Wentz has greater trade value than Baker Mayfield, but apparently it's true.

The Browns signed Brissett to be their backup shortly after trading for Watson. Mayfield was never going to take another snap for the Browns regardless of Watson’s suspension.
