If you count Hobbes and Shaw there are ten of 'em and nine of them are better than Avatar. Of course, you will definitely not agree with this. But they are, for the most part, fun.

(I like 2F2F more than Avatar as well, but it is objectively an absolute load of fucking shite so...)

Cars… in orbit… that can manuver in orbit with just a steering wheel… that can ram satellites (successfully destroying that satellite and not the car)… and get back to Earth in one piece.

No… a thousand times… no.

I get the desire to return to a time where not all blockbusters has the Marvel title card in front of them, and maybe we will never get that again, but I guess my point is that Avatar is not a movie I would point to as an exciting alternative.

Mainly because I think the plot and narrative, and actually the levels of creativity are just as generic and safe as any Marvel movie, and it’s just interesting from a technical craft perspective, that’s it.

I love it when big budget blockbusters also show a level of unique creativity and bravery, they are few and far between. Hard to think of too many now, but at the very least the Nolan Batman movies were different.

Now the best we can hope for is when Marvel hire a Sam Raimi to do something mildly different inside their template.

But at least there is good tv.

I'll go see the sequel because my eldest is super into it, but honestly, and this might sound silly given I'm such a huge fantasy/scifi fan, but my suspension got bounced out of the theater when many, if not most, of the animal species had six appendages but the Na'vi only had four. Were they native to Pandora or not?

Didn't help leaving the theater feeling like I'd seen Avatar a few times before either.

Bad PG, bad. :spank:

I'm here if you want to argue a few of the F&F movies are better, but not basically all of them. 2F2F is horrible and most people hate Tokyo Drift, and really F5 and F7 stand out, but the rest are unrecognizable from one another and it's a lot of CGI porn with some bad acting mixed in.

They're no Fury Road, that's for sure.

Oh for sure, but that's what I think of Avatar too except with no charm and I didn't like the action.

I actually enjoy Tokyo Drift, although it is also the origin of mine and my brother's list of 'single seconds of acting that vastly outclass the movie they're in' (when Sonny Chiba turns and looks at his son at the end). The driving scenes are cool, Han rocks, and while it's basically 'Karate Kid 4 da kidz' it's joyful with it.

But I don't like 4, that was rubbish and mostly charmless, so I may give Avatar that one.

The “proto lemurs” shown early in the film show 4 appendages … but clearly it is because the top 4 of 6 appendages are fusing together.

Just googled up some images. Partial fusion of the upper limbs or no, those lemur type things still seem hexapodal. Minor quibble. I'll be fine with evolutionary oddness as long as the story continues in a more original vein. I guess.

To me 4, 6 and 8 are interchangeable, with 9 being the same but.....in space. I actually like TD while recognizing it's crap, and 2F2F can just go fuck itself. 5 and 7 are legitimate great films though. H&S is dumb fun.

H&S is the most technically competent as an action film, by some distance, which makes sense because it's a David Leitch joint. I don't like 4 pretty much because it's the least competent as an action film, 2 aside- the finale was just a visual mess.

Maybe Na'vi are born with additional limbs which are ritually amputated when the kid's a week old. There's some dark shit in the unrated, imaginary, directors cut.

When you realized his creations eventually led us to Terminator Genysis and Dark Fate?

I haven't seen Dark Fate. is it really that bad?

One thing I'll say about Genysis: The first act is solid and Emilia Clarke does a good job as Sarah Connor. The rest of the film...

ETA: That's two things...

It's really not. I liked it better than Salvation or Genysis and probably 3. There's an early plot point that was very controversial but if you can get past that I think it's alright.

The first few minutes of Dark Fate, are an insult to all fans of Terminator 2.
