Good thread about the dishonest moron that some people seem to think will save humanity with rockets to Mars. His focus and integrity seems to be ... off.

Yeah, I dont have much use for Twitter, but I do feel sorry for Parag Agrawal (who grew up in the same neighborhood I did, albeit many years later - we specialize in creating techno-nerds). I dont think he would have dreamed that growing up he would end up in such a public position being trolled by wannabe Lex Luthor villains.

As for the primaries, havent been paying much attention. Still find it annoying how reporting is done, based on percentage point differentials while the vote is being counted. Just talk about raw number of votes and how many votes are outstanding, much easier to understand.

Yeah the current laws really aren't up to how he manipulates the markets, and as that thread points out - he's wealthy enough that any penalties are negligible. There's also something of an assumption that all parties will act like reasonable adults, not toddlers, and he also shows the flaw in that.

To be clear, Cawthorn conceded.

Anyway, the PA GOP Senate primary, it's down to McCormick and Oz - the "ultra MAGA" candidate Barnette isn't in contention.  The Summer Lee race I mentioned upthread is also down to the wire.

I was referring to Fetterman, sorry. Should have refreshed the page before replying.

The Cawthorn thing is funny, though.

Jamie Mcleod-Skinner seems to be winning, too.

Early results suggest Cawthorn will have plenty of free time soon to visit other Nazi historical sites in between his regularly scheduled coke fueled orgies.

Someone who is even more batshit than MTG, which is an achievement.

A law that could ban abortions in Michigan if the Supreme Court decimates the national right to the procedure has been put on ice, thanks to a court order Tuesday.

A Michigan Court of Claims judge has issued a preliminary injunction blocking the 1931 law, which predates Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide. Planned Parenthood of Michigan sued over the law in April, in anticipation of the possibility that the majority-conservative Supreme Court would overturn Roe and leave states free to ban abortion.

Looks like Summer Lee will just eek out a victory.  The race is still too close to call and her main opponent has yet to concede, but she's declared victory and the outstanding votes are very likely to go her way (albeit a mandatory recount - if the margin is under 0.5 percent - is still very much a possibility).  With Jamie McLeod-Skinner likely to beat incumbent Kurt Schrader in the Oregon fifth, a pretty good night for "progressives" over "the establishment."

Buffalo killer employed Discord to review his plans with supporters to murder Black people in a supermarket over 300 miles away from where he lives only 30 minutes before the first shots.

The suspect recorded months’ worth of preparation in an online chat log.

For months before the mass shooting in Buffalo that killed 10 people, a teenager mulled potential targets, posted racist and antisemitic memes and messages and updated his plans.

He considered targeting a predominantly Black elementary school in Buffalo, but decided it would be too difficult to enter. He mulled traveling to Rochester for an attack, or even to Maryland, but admitted of the second target, “I don’t have a plan for that.”

In the days before the attack, he posted pictures of himself and of a gun, on which he’d written in Wite-Out the names of other mass shooters.

The messages appear to have been posted on the chat application Discord by a writer who identified himself as Payton Gendron, before they were uploaded to internet forums as a pair of comprehensive documents. ....

.... Details: The unclassified May 13 memo by DHS' intelligence arm says threats that followed the leak of a draft opinion — targeting Supreme Court Justices, lawmakers and other public officials, as well as clergy and health care providers — "are likely to persist and may increase leading up to and following the issuing of the Court’s official ruling."

Context: Abortion-related violence historically has been driven by anti-abortion extremists.

"Some racially or ethnically motivated violent extremists’ embrace of pro-life narratives may be linked to the perception of wanting to 'save white children' and 'fight white genocide,'" the memo also says. ....

Also violence might arise out of pro reproductive rights, but reasons they aren't anywhere near as concerned with that coming from the anti-reproductive rights terrorists . . . .

Sadly, some of the folks in the race for Alaska's lone congressional seat make MTG look sane by comparison - no exaggeration

I deem it highly unlikely any of these will win. It is possible, though not likely, a democratic or independent might win that seat, mostly because the crazies are competing against each other. Still...should the worst happen and one of these fruit loops win, is there a degree of utterly crazy and reckless behavior inside the at which point they can be expelled or hauled off for a psychiatric evaluation? (Think directly physically attacking other congresspeople
