US Politics: I Don't Like Mondays

the cops likely don't come from the community

They did in Uvalde.  They had kids in that school, though I don't think any of the cops there as on duty did.  But at least one off-duty cop, or a retired cop, got his kids out of the school.

So did one mom who drove there from elsewhere in 40 minutes flat to be there when she heard -- and was restrained by the cops when she yelled at them to go in there. When they took off the cuffs she went over the fence, went to a window and got her kids out.  In the meantime the cops stood there.

It's simply optics. They're still bought and paid for by the NRA's blood money.

What it is, is these frackin' cowards are scared somebody will take them out, or try, and they'll get shot themselves.  People everywhere are so very very angry with them and the police.

The damned gun emporium where the killer bought his weapons has refused to allow journalists in.  One reported the owners said, "Not you.  You have a notebook and an accent."

Returning momentarily to the TX politicos and NRA terror.

This is TX.  Everybody has guns. Some Uvalde parents were there at the school with their guns, wanting to rush the killer, says a person interviewed by the New Yorker.

These people are gop/orange supporters, and gun supporters.  They are very very very angry.

Further, in that same small report, one of the members of the Uvalde community said, "Something has to be done.  Something.  Why don't they do something?"  But it concludes, when considering the only thing that actually will stop this, making guns so available to anyone, he shook his head and said, essentially, we can't have the government take our guns away.  We need them.

These aren't Dem 'liberals' who don't even believe in the death penalty, much less have personal arsenals.  So, Abbotts and Costellos are scared.  Thus cancellation and doing their best not to be visible.

Legally seizure of existing legally purchased arms is much more difficult than a prospective ban.  I wonder if a ban moving forward is one that gun lovers could stomach so long they keep their beloved security firearms.

The NRA convention forbids guns within the event itself, doesn't it? Almost as if they believe that guns are dangerous or something.

Being realistic, we're more likely to see a loosening of gun laws, not assault rife bans...

I think it's most likely a subconscious bias, but given how police respond to active shooters in every other situation, the fact that this community is predominantly Latino can't be overlooked IMO.

We are not a red state. We are a oppressed state.

being more than a little cynical here, but between this massacre and the botched border shutdown that cost Texas billions, Abbot and other conservative politicians might actually be in serious danger of losing their reelection bids - especially since there WILL be other incidents between now and election day.

One would certainly wish it so.  But the Texans themselves, who are furious, who have been voting along, think otherwise because voter suppression.  They've FIXED it.

They have cleverly and patiently created the very world they wanted, and now they've got it, and they're keeping it -- unless it is taken from them again by the point of a gun, which is how they did it, along with a lot of other strategies.  When they begin shooting at each other, it really shall be Armageddon.

Not that it'll do much good...

Btw, Candace Owens helped spread the completely unsubstantiated rumor (apparently originating from 4chan) that the shooter was transsexual...

If there had been an adult armed nearby with their own lawn dart that wouldn’t have happened.  :dunno:

So sayeth the gun lobby logic.

Funny part is I was born in 88 and I only know about lawn darts because of Me, Myself and Irene.

I am still trying to wrap my head around this.

Uvalde spends almost half of its budget on its police force (which I still find excessive, but hey America). They even keep their own SWAT team, and yet they wanted to wait for a special team from outside. So what does Uvalde's actually keep a SWAT team for? I mean, surely not just for pathetic photo ops in their gear.

They keep saying this on the news and I can't help but feel it's all anyone really needs to know about these people.  As a game I'll try and spin it and I never rise above complete bullshit. Good news is we are all so completely under control bullshit is more than enough.
