Star Warsing Across the Universe

That was fine, although the degree to which they're repeating the OG Star Wars movie is a bit silly.

Spoiler

With the probe/torture droid, the "secret tracker" element, Leia as a prisoner of the Empire etc.

I did like seeing the snow/airspeeders again though. And after being trashed in both Jedi: Fallen Order and now Obi-Wan, that fortress has the worst security in the galaxy.

My biggest issue was that if Leia went home after Episode 2 or 3 and was fine, that would explain why she both knew and trusted Ben Kenobi but also didn't really mention the adventure: it was a two-day wonder ten years earlier and she had more stuff on her mind. But the longer and longer she spends adventuring with a Jedi having been kidnapped from her family, the much less plausible it becomes that this never came up later on. Maybe Obi-Wan force-wipes her memory or something, but that would be quite lame.

It may explain why the Emperor was reasonably happy to have Alderaan iced with no consequences though.

So was it just me or was the CGI towards the end not very good? The snow speeders in particular looked very fake to me. Almost like something you'd see from someone on Youtube.

They looked like they did in The Empire Strikes Back. Not sure we needed that much nostalgia.

I definitely feel like this show is best enjoyed with brain turned off, and for that it's a fairly entertaining fanfic, just don't think about it.

Episode 4 of Obi Wan is just.. BORING.

Right now there is only one thing keeping this show from being CW level turgid shit, and that is Ewan McGregor and the collective 5 minutes we've seen of him this entire season. In this last episode there were maybe 20 seconds that rose above a level even competent and that was when Obi Wan was looking sad, or those closing seconds with Leia.

Everything else now is just absolutely brainless fluff. This episode in particular is just a lazy rehash of every 'rescue the prisoner' thing I've ever seen. It has no innovation or creativity, it has nothing interesting to say, nothing to make it justify it's own existance.

I was relatively positive about ep3 but this has really lost me now. It's completely baffling that a show entitled Obi-Wan Kenobi has so little Obi-Wan in it. I know this is a standard Disney thing now, to remove the main character from the forefront of their shows or movies, so they can push side characters, but it's only Obi-Wan who is interesting in this show, so why isn't he in it more?! McGregor is a lightyear ahead of anyone else in terms of acting and seems to be able to communicate emotion and feeling almost effortlessly, and also seems to understand the inhouse style of being in a Star Wars production, far more than anyone on this show.

Had to go onto IMDB to see who wrote this crap, and yeah it seems to be a collective effort by a bunch of people who either have little real experience of writing (Joby Harold is a producer who wrote Army of the Dead .. Christ!).. people who should be a lot better, including the screenwriter of Drive and the writer of Collateral and Pixars Andrew Stanton who I'm sure just turned up one day to see how things were going.

This show is simply boring. It has nothing to say, it feels like it's just trying to take up space.

What is this show man… Kenobi hides Leia under his trench coat walking past hundreds of storm troopers and TWO inquisitors!

Vader should’ve cut off Revas hand in his rage. Instead he says the cliche line of “it seems I’ve underestimated you”...

Yea, pretty disappointed on the show so far. I’m in for Obi Wan losing his connection and regaining it with some help from Qui Gon, that basic arc they’ve set out is sound, but have to agree this was just ‘rescue the prisoner’ by numbers. I didn’t dislike anything as much as episode 3 up until the fucking trench coat, I mean what are they even doing there? It actually feels like it’s written as one of the more light hearted Clone Wars episodes, except they’ve then overlayed a very serious tone over the top that doesn’t fit. ‘Hide Leia in a trench coat’ feels like something the Family Guy parody would do.

Laughably bad. Feel like I'm watching Space Balls.

A massively important base built underwater with windows that break from blaster fire, and security so bad that a Jedi can waltz through with a high-priority prisoner under his coat and two snow speeders can just glide in and rescue them.

I want to go back to the days when Obi-Wan's mission was just to protect Luke ie. the previous 40 or so years of Star Wars history, before they turned it into The Adventures of Obi-Wan and Leia.

I gotta say, this was by far the most implausible thing I've seen in Star Wars on anything ever. This beats the uncle wookie watching porn on life day.

Also, the empire went from being known for having, like, a gazillion tie fighters at beck and call to just...not being able to pursue a single speeder on one of the most guarded systems in the Empire? Not even turrets or anything to protect the base?

I just...oy.

Alright, the scene with those snow speeders is just driving me nuts. I can't put my finger on why I thought they were so stupid. I can't tell if it's the fact they can suddenly just fly in place, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense, considering how they worked in Empire or if it's the fact they they just suddenly showed up at the base, without anyone being altered.................do snow speeders have a cloaking feature, like the Defiant on DS9 or something, lol

Well did you not see that they boarded a large ship that was hidden in the clouds?

I do question the fortress's defense system that they were not detected on approach and as Kal said above, that no TIE fighters were deployed.

Also, in terms of the visuals I think the issue is the vault where they film. I could see that the background wasn't "deep" behind them. It looked the same when Tala and Obi-Wan first arrive on the imperial ship.

Yeah, it was - but they can't detect a ship just hanging out in fucking Mustafar? It ain't like it was a good ship, mind you. The ghost this ain't.

Also, for speeders that were built to haul sewage they had good blasters.

Yes, putting a tracker on Obi-Wan is a nice rehash of ANH, but if you want Kenobi chances are pretty good that it'd be easier to just, ya know, fly after his snowspeeder ass. Hell, Vader, we know YOU have a tie fighter. What the hell man

I thought she was lying about the tracker at first, in a desperate bid to live. Cause like what did she call the speeders? What was her plan before they showed up?

Apparently to put a tracker on Leia's toy droid and then let her escape for...reasons.

Right but when she had them on trapped before they were rescued by the speeders, how were they going to escape? She didn't know the speeders were coming.

Well, that seems to put the nonsense about the thought-sucking thing being some kind of super technique back into perspective.

Apparently you can do it to Palpatine's granddaughter but not to Anakin's daughter - and resisting it as a ten-year-old doesn't indicate you are Force sensitive or anything.

And, hell, I think I'm getting it why folks are annoyed by the Third Sister character. She just does things she shouldn't be doing. She complains and disobeys orders all the time ... and then there are just no consequences. I mean, okay, she captured Leia ... but why the hell is she - and only she - the only Inquisitor interrogating her when the other Inquisitors are in THE SAME BASE?! They clearly do not have better things to do. Earlier she seemingly murdered the Grand Inquisitor, blaming it on Kenobi. But if he isn't dead, why didn't he tell anyone what she did? Why is she claiming Vader is backing me on this or that not ignored by the other Inquisitors the way she ignores orders? These other guys do outrank her, apparently.

Also, okay, she seems to have a backstory we should be interested it - but it is really provided in a strange way showing us only her anger and not really why she is angry and what she wants. There are better way to do this.

Why is Vader absent? Why didn't he demand that Leia Organa be handed to him/questioned by him? Vader does know stuff about Bail Organa and he should be interested in Leia independent of the Kenobi hunt. At first the Empire acted through intermediaries, so they had plausible deniability and stuff - but keeping Leia prisoner, interrogating her and intending to torture/kill her pushed things pretty far - at least if we assume it as something a single Inquisitor decided.

And why is the Inquisitorius so dumb that they constantly think something is a myth/not true?

Saving Leia from that base would have been something to bring the Organas back into the story. We could have had Obi-Wan telling them where Leia was, and then have Bail show up with a fleet, possibly even a couple of Star Destroyers under the command of a Moff or Admiral buddy of his, forcing Vader to talk to him directly. Obi-Wan could have infiltrated the base in the meantime, and Alderaan fighting pilots could have given back-up when they were escaping, with Vader being forced to deny that he knew anything about the entire operation and setting up one of the Inquisitors as a patsy who had to take the blame.

Having a bunch of guys play at being soldiers who aren't even rebels at this point stretched things beyond limits - even more so in light of the fact that the base is apparently protected by nobody, etc. I mean, even the infiltration sucked - this is supposed to be a secret facility, so not only should it be hard to get in but also pretty much impossible to just do your thing, talk to your buddy on a comlink, etc. without you being constantly approached and addressed by other people.

This isn't the gigantic Death Star or anything - but a rather small base and top secret at that. There shouldn't be that many people there and those who are there should know each other and/or what they are doing there. But neither of that is the case in the episode.
