Varysblackfyre321
I’ve recently read Seraphim trilogy by David daligesh; the main antagonist is on a mission destroy or at least reduce humanity, in order to save multiple intelligent, cognizant empathetic species from genocide. Larry of the Lawn
Obvious answer is Bakker. This thread is a good read and maybe vaguely illuminating, probably with some heavy overlap to your OP.
SeanF
I found Milady de Winter more sympathetic than Athos, Porthos, Aramis , and D’Artagnan.

Garlan the Gallant
Define "antagonist". Characters like Jorg and Glotka are antagonists, technically, but I think many people root for them.
dog-days
I've always had a soft spot for Inspector Javert, though he is in several ways an awful person, much more so in the book than the musical. My adolescent self never went as far as to want him to win exactly, and certainly not for anything awful to happen to Valjean; it was more that the idea of an incorruptible, energetic, brave policeman appealed to my Lawful Neutral alignment. I probably wasn't as receptive to Hugo's message as I could have been. Watched the newest BBC adaptation a couple of years ago, and still found him sympathetic. The antagonist is the opposing force to the protagonist, which they both are. No rule says the protagonist has to be nice, or even good. Glotka is a bit more complicated I suppose coz he does occasionally conflict with the other PoVs, but I'd say all of their actual antagonists are other people.
