Gabigol was a huge flop for Inter. He had one bad season in 16/17, scoring only one goal and didn't have too many appearances. Then was being loaned until 2020 when Flamengo redeemed him.

For what it's worth, he seems to be doing good in Brazil.

Yes, but to be fair, he was only 20 at the time, and his coach in part of the time was Frank de Boer...

Yeah, but he also flopped during his loan spell with Benfica. Acting as if he were a second Neymar (without the on pitch display to justify it in any shape or form), and showing a general lack of discipline, which resulted in him struggling to maintain a necessary level of fitness. If he managed to fix those issues (quite possible as he is a bit older and hopefully more mature now), he could still carve out a career in European football. If not, he will be back on a plane to Brazil within a year.

De Boer has been terrible for us (and every other football entity not named Ajax), but there was a pattern with Barbosa. De Boer was sacked but after that, the interim manager, and after him Pioli didn't rate Barbosa, and then he was loaned out every year until Flamengo redeemed him.

I'm not saying that he can't succeed outside of Brazil now, I just think he would be a gamble, depending on the cost.

I'm surprised we are interested in him then to be honest. Howe has made a big deal of really looking at the person as well as the player, recognising the importance of team cohesion.

That's why  I said it's a gamble. He is older now and thus there's a fair chance he has grown up. There our Brazilian football fan could give a better answer on that. The talent is surely there, it was primarily the lack of professionalism/discipline that cut his Europe adventure short imo. He could turn out to be a very good signing or a total bust.

Luke Edwards has reported that there is no truth to those rumours and Newcastle are not considering signing Gabigol.

Stone and Ducker reporting that Sterling has agreed personal terms with Chelsea.

Reports that Lamptey has switched international allegiance to Ghana. The Ghanaian FA have also convinced Inaki Williams to switch and were in talks with Hudson-Odoi to do the same but that seems to have broken down.

I'm sure if he worked hard he could have gotten a place in an England 11 made up entirely of right backs.

Ghana are talent shopping for the WC atm. Former Germany u21 internationals Stephan Ambrosius, Ransford Yeboah Königsdörfer (both H$V) and Darmstadt's Patric Pfeiffer switched Federations and are now eligible for Ghana.

Looks like this De Jong transfer is not going to be completed anytime soon. Ducker reporting in The Telegraph that the transfer is being held up by £17m in deferred wages that Barca owe to De Jong. Apparently he agreed to defer £9.4m in wages in 2020/2021 and £4.3m last season as well as an additional £3.4m in bonuses in order to help ease the club's financial difficulties.

Can't blame him. It's pretty wild that Barca are out here saying they have money to spend on new transfers but oops, we can't afford to repay those contractually-agreed wages the players agreed to defer.

How much money do Barca actually have .. as opposed to how much they are planning to have in the future? How much of their sudden ability to buy players is some clever accounting that just kicks the can down the road

They sold 10% of their tv rights.

Best of luck to Neco if he goes.  We signed an alternate back-up RB in Calvin Ramsey because we knew Neco wants to go and be a starter somewhere, not least to keep his place in the Wales team.  I hope he does well.  Forest expect him to play was a WB rather than FB, which probably suits him.

It helps Liverpool to get a decent fee for him when it doesn’t seem like we’re generating a great amount from player sales ever since COVID struck.  Gone are the days of ~20 million for Brewster or Solanke or Ibe  City have garnered lots of transfer fees this summer, and Chelsea have a very valuable pipeline of youth players, but Liverpool haven’t produced as many top prospects.

Another 15% of their TV rights are up for sale and negotiations are currently taking place. Barca's socios voted in favour of selling up to 25% of the TV rights and up to 49.9% of Barcelona's licensing and merchandising but according to Laporta the latter will not be sold unless absolutely necessary. Selling 25% of their TV rights is estimated to bring in between €500m and €600m.

£17m for Neco Williams is very much in line with those transfers. He has his fans as he's so attacking (pretty much all he does is try to score, and sometimes it works), but he's incredibly limited as a player.
