A Horse Named Stranger
3-2 unexpectedly succesful start of the new season. Slapstick defending around our back up goalkeeper (starter out for a bit with a broken finger). Nürnberg too stupid to capitalize on it. First chance for us from a laughably soft freekick 1-0. Second good attack, neatly bought penalty. 2-0 Finally well played out attacking move 3-0 HT. With a hurting right shoulder standing next to the energetic 2m+ guy, celebrating goals was an experience. The third goal was nearly as painful for me as it was for Nürnberg. Start of the second half, first shot on target 3-1. Then the game was more or less in sleep mode, we had 2-3 good chances to put it out of reach. One more slapstick moment surrounding defense/goalkeeper miscommunication. 90+2 3-2. Slapstick defending, this time the goalkeeper was not the culprit tho. I'll take the three points quite happily, but this squad desperately needs one more forward and one CAM. Yes, the season started, and there are still holes in the squad. Consigliere
Also depends on whether or not Lewandowski really hits a decline within the next 3 years. If he doesn't fall off a cliff then it'll probably be worth it for Barca because he is a top class CF.

Depends, if he is the reason they make it to the CL semi-finals in two years out of those three, then it was woth it. That's the calculus.
Raja
What do you get for making the semi finals?
A Horse Named Stranger
Money. Prize money and broadcast revenue. For the 2019/20 season Reaching the first k.o. round was worth 9.5m €, reaching the reaching the QF was worth another 10.5m €, SF another 12m €, reaching the final another 15m guaranteed + 4m extra for the winner. So reaching the CL semi-final was worth a good 22m €. That was 2 years ago. That's just what UEFA pays out. Then there's also the sponsorship value. ants

Around 70m€ including what they get for progressing in previous stages, including wins and draws in the group stage. But this doesn't include tickets, viewing exposure and other revenue (I think). They could buy Bellingham surely with just the CL money?

Of course they could spend €100-120m (or more) on Bellingham if they really wanted to.

The funding wasn't only to sign new player but to reduce short term debts that were killing them? Would it work? logic says no or it'll only half work but... Barca is too big to fall anyways. Either they are rescued or a Saudi buys them. The other thing that comes to mind is that Barca only just avoided going bankrupt while fielding one of the most transcendent players to ever grace the pitch. Without Messi, it seems to me that their hubris and immoderate spending on older players is surely going to bite them in the a$$ sooner rather than later when the unavoidable numbers chain finally runs out.
