Hitherto, overwhelmingly white Conservative constituencies have shown no inclination to reject Black or Asian Conservative candidates.

You were saying...?

Says the guy who had to delete a racist tweet calling Sunak ‘a brown man’

Well, what colour is he?*

*Asking on behalf of a conscientious, socially progressive, middle-aged white man, desperately trying to navigate the modern world without getting cancelled.

I mean, as far as I can tell, after ten minutes of googling, I have come to the conclusion that calling Rishi Sunak 'a brown man' is about as offensive as calling Barack Obama 'a black man'.

But you're saying we're not allowed to say brown anymore? When did that change? Because they forgot to update the internet.

I mean, I tried to come up with a more suitable, non-racist term than brown, by comparing the colour of Rishi's skin with things and objects found in the natural world. But, honestly, anything other than 'brown' just felt a bit, well, racist.

So, to help us all move safely forward, what adjective would you now like everyone else to use when describing Rishi Sunak's skin colour?

The least popular choice is Jeremy Hunt, white and male.

Yeah, this guy is such an enormous twat, his twattishness transcends both race and gender, and can, in fact, be seen from space.

Still doesn't explain how Rishi can be the overwhelming choice amongst MPs, but when kicked back to the people who will actually be voting, he is only able to beat Hunt.

I’m listening to a Taylor Swift song right now, Red, and there’s a line in it that reminds me of most of the Tory candidates: loving him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead end street.

Except none of these guys are really Maseratis, are they?

Personally I am scared about how much irreversible economic damage Sunak would do before he lost the next election, in his quest to make the UK a paradise for billionaire hedge fund owners. Look at his pet "free ports" project for example.

Mordaunt is a big booster of free ports too, so there's likely no avoiding this particular libertarian car crash.

Tugendhat has gone backwards, wouldn’t be surprised if he withdraws over the weekend

He's staying in to 'put his vision forward', which I guess translates as 'because I have nothing to lose so I might as well'.

Or alternatively, none of the other candidates have offered him a cabinet job yet

The SNP is also introducing 2 Free ports.. I guess they are a libertarian car crash party.

The SNP agreed to them controversially and reluctantly, and only after getting a whole string of concessions, such as lots of money, no zero hours contracts, minimum pay set to the living wage etc. The extent to which those ones are truly still free ports is arguable.

I think he wants to be part of the TV debates, no politician is going to miss that opportunity for self-promotion even if he knows it won't get him any further in this contest.
