animalia
Is there currently a consensus on which Targaryen retrieved Blackfire from the pyre of Aegon I's Cremation? I ask because all of the various sources are all mixed up.
Alexis-something-Rose
Fire and Blood says it's Maegor who retrieved it.
animalia
And what does A World Of Ice & Fire say?
The Wondering Wolf
I think only F&B mentions the event, so there shouldn't be any mixed up sources for that one.

Just F&B, as well as Book of Swords? ok then
The Wondering Wolf
25 minutes ago, animalia said: Just F&B, as well as Book of Swords? ok then Book of Swords contains an early version of the "The Sons of the Dragon" chapter, which was revised for F&B. So in case Book of Swords states something different, it is outdated information.
Seams
This is an excellent question. GRRM uses poems from William Blake for some of this inspiration, and this stanza about god's creation of the "Tyger" is probably relevant: In what distant deeps or skies. Burnt the fire of thine eyes? On what wings dare he aspire? What the hand, dare seize the fire? When Dany finally rides Drogon, she remarks upon his "molten" eyes. That may be her moment of seizing the fire. I think Maegor may be the originator (first player?) of the "Game" of Thrones. He built the "Chutes and Ladders" (or "Snakes and Ladders") setting known as Maegor's Holdfast. It probably makes a difference if the sword was still hot or already cool when he took it from the pyre, but it shows that he was a player in the game. The "fyre" name of the sword is also a clue for us that dragons and tygers (or cats in general) are related in ASOIAF. Interesting that Arya's training in sword fighting involves catching cats. In Maegor's Holdfast.
Frey family reunion
Quote Blackfyre was burned with the king, but retrieved by Maegor afterward, its blade darker but elsewise unharmed. No common fire can damage Valyrian steel. Fire & Blood, the Sons of the Dragon
The Commentator
The handle is usually leather covered. The sword handle got damaged but the blade part would remain undamaged.
