Why yes indeed, one does remember very well these expressions in the first Covid threads right here on this forum. Expressed by the same posters, in fact, who then later lie and say they didn't say or think that -- even while doing it again right in front of our faces. The only worthwhile response to this is... It must be so refreshing to go through life not giving any fucks for anyone whatsoever. People say 'how do they sleep at night'? I'm sure they sleep fine because they don't worry about the shit that keeps normal decent people up in the wee small hours.

Ministers openly attacking each other over their respective roles in what is surely the most awful government the country has ever seen. All they are doing is providing countless clips and soundbites for Labour to roll out during the next election.

James Arryn
Question, on an issue like say ‘education level was one of the clearest determinants of supporting Brexit’, ie the more educated the less likely to support Brexit, in the US this would be met with a LOT of ~Brexit supporters claiming that pse is a Remain factory rather than admitting a general correlation to simply being more learned/educated as a concept. Is there a lot of that in the UK, the idea that higher education intentionally force feeds…want to say progressive/leftist thinking but I know that’s not a 1:1 with Brexit supporters…onto the more educated? edit: and in general is there a lot of anti-intellectualism/science/education in the more right wing elements of political discourse? You have to understand that PPE is a degree offered by one uni in the UK: Oxford. Oxford and Cambridge are, even now, held in near reverence as institutions by Tory voters, to the extent that Truss is promising that any and all students getting certain grades at school will be guaranteed an interview for Oxbridge. (A totally impractical idea that involves compelling independent universities to do what the government tells them at great expense and will undercut social mobility: interviews are shown to be affected by social class and other demographic factors.) When it comes to those two universities in particular, then, you see a lot of doublethink among Tory voters. On the one hand, like all universities, they are thought to harbour woke thinking and waste time on frivolous subjects taught by ivory tower academics who know nothing about real life. On the other, and at the same time, they're seen as the pinnacle of British education, the best in the world, a beacon of light and knowledge where only the best and brightest go. Oxford is the upper class solidly Tory university that aspiring Tory politicians want to go to. Cambridge is generally more intellectual upper middle class and somewhat further to the left, "Whig" being the old word for it. To quote one (somewhat pro Oxford) saying; Oxford is the university of dreaming spires, Cambridge the university of aspiring dreams.

It lets you pretend to be educated when working at the family firm. Having plebs with the same or better qualifications around reduces your value making you replaceable. Not to mention the problem of being compared to the lessers and being found wanting. Zorral, Ser Reptitious, Poobah and 4 others
