Football. Sweden then (probably) France, a Waterloo double?

I’d be happy to see FDJ go to United if it meant Barcelona took Bernardo Silva from City.  He has played a huge role in their success under Pep.

BTW is it possible that United will play Martinez as a DM rather than CB?  It seems mad that they still haven’t signed a DM (nor would FDJ fill that role) but I read that Martinez can play there.  With Maguire retaining the captaincy, perhaps he’ll be starting alongside Varane at CB.  Because I don’t think ETH has a history of playing three CBs.

This is the great thing about the off-season re-set: new uncertainties about the season ahead.  Last summer City and United were tipped for the title race and Liverpool were considered a spent force.  This summer a United have so much in flux that it’s really hard to know what to expect from them.  Could Rashford and Martial rediscover their scoring of two seasons ago alongside Sancho, or will they revert to last year’s form?  Will a real tactical coach make a huge difference or will the players give up like they did for Rangnick?

yeah, pre-season is cool. You don't know whether United are going to be dogshit or just shit

re: City. Why are they selling so many players? They didn't pay that much for Haaland, and albeit the Etihad isn't exactly always crowded, they are nowhere near bankrupcy.

Jesus and Sterling were surplus – they've got enough forwards. Foden/Grealish for the left, Mahrez for the right (Both Foden and B.Silva can play on the right too) and Haaland/Alvarez up front. They are trying to sign a specialist LB so Zinchenko was offloaded too.

Yeah, Guardiola has said that he doesn't want to keep players, even players he likes, if they're not getting a game and want to leave. So they're selling off surplus players. Reasonable both from a human point of view and in terms of managing morale in the dressing room.

In more American news, I find it quite ironic that apparently Gareth Bale won't stop speaking Spanish to his teammates in LA.  Even if they use English on him, he frequently responds in relatively fluent Spanish.

So much for the Madrid press and their constant spew about how Bale never bothered to learn the language at Real Madrid.

I think that's reading an awful lot into a very short video clip. Of course, if there is an issue and United are actually serious about sorting things out, they need to back the manager completely.

Obviously it's fun to shit on United, but this latest incident is probably just a case of ETH finding out that he has to make certain rules clear to the players. I guess the problem is that previously they've probably been allowed to just bugger off whenever they feel like it.

If viewed in isolation, perhaps. But in the context of the CR7 circus and everything that is going on right now, it perhaps confirms what everyone is thinking.

I imagine he'll be keeping a beady eye on the CL qualifiers. Maybe if Monaco get past PSV then he might rock up there. Otherwise, it's a proper motley bunch.

The trouble is he wants to leave, but nobody wants to play his ridiculous wages, and his ego won't let him drop his wage demands.

He is reportedly desperate to overtake Messi's scoring record in the CL group stages. So perhaps that aspect of his ego will allow him to take a paycut and go somewhere else. It's not as if he needs the money.

I think CRonaldo would drop his wage demands for a move, but it's how far he needs to drop them that's the issue. No team that can afford even 50% of his current salary is interested. Heck, there's no firm interest from anyone, even the ones that can't afford him! I'm sure he'll find takers at some point, but the problem here is saving face.
