The losing one term former President who lives in Florida and loves the Russian dictator… was begging for money at CPAC to pay lawyers to sue CNN for him.  Any attorney worth their salt knows to get big money from this asshat well in advance of filing any bullshit case he wants filed.  I mean a million dollar retainer.  Anything less is mere toilet paper.

Uh oh. Will he survive or not? Too chancy for me to bet on, but the oddmakers I read got him at an implied 63% to avoid an indicment. But they also said an implied 43.5% chance of indictment.

DMC -- yes, rebranding sounds right, with the Tea Party being my first exposure to the movement. I'm not sure about the Proud Boys, they seem to have been heavily marginalized to me. But that's the point -- the US left wing has won every. single. movement. since 1865 (abortion rights seem to have taken a hit, but the Supreme Court didn't wholly kill off the option somewhere in the US; shaken, but not broken). What I see is a post-1865 correlation of forces, where the leftist (especially the progressive) has become an inevitability!

Being right wing, will I challenge the dominant social forces of the US? Hahaha, no way -- I'd sign up to defend the Chinese population of Taiwan before that. In fact, when there is a more intense general clash, o/a 2023/4, I'd put my money on the left (progerssive) winning and its subsequent slide towards a more controlled market ecomomy.

Notable is when the limited clashes in 2020 occurred, the right wing almost always beat the left wing, yet who is more organized? Who has more mass? Who has more political / economic support? The left.

The last 2 Republican Presidents got into the WH with a minority vote in a 2 party race, every war the U.S. has ever waged has received whole hearted support until it dragged into an extended occupation because ‘support the troops’ except when it comes to actually supporting the troops instead of the war machine, people living in rural/conservative states enjoy much more voting power than those living in urban/liberal states, gun laws have regressed in spite of the majority wanting it the other way, economic stratification has been steadily increasing since 1970 due in large part to conservative economic shilling for Daddy Warbucks et al and the fact that unionization steadily declined year after year, decade after decade because ‘look out, scary socialism >>>>> letting the billionaires fuck you over, and despite decade after decade of the (far and away) majority of terrorist attacks in the us being by right wing extremists, it was only very recently they were even classed as terrorists and therefore ~ saw their survival training and arsenal building scrutinized, unlike the extreme scrutiny put on, say, people who take their shoes off to pray, the Supreme Court has been conservative since Nixon (except for a year and a half under Obama) and is clearly so now.

Going further back let’s not forget reconstruction destruction and Jim Crow Laws, the largest foreign Nazi party in the world and largest Nazi trading partner and munitions supplier up to Pearl (and for many like Ford even after) and McCarthyism and the decades since where socialism is both misunderstood and vilified well beyond any other developed country, segregation, lynchings, etc. Yeah, it’s been an uninterrupted liberal paradise.

Did you ever hear the one about the conservative who feels they’re under attack regardless of the situation? Right, it’s all of them, going right back to the origins of the conservative movement, which was formed expressly to counter the liberal movement they feared was attacking their way of life/wanna say priveleWOKEge. Psychological studies have shown that liberals are most motivated by anger, conservatives by fear. Gingrich openly said that the plan was to use fear to push the conservative movement/GOP harder to the right, always push, grab the initiative and never let go, forcing the Dems to either follow along to maintain the Center or open themselves up to attack as extremists.

The result? A conservative movement that’s moved so far to the extreme that a healthcare package that was almost the exact same as the one Bob Dole proposed decades back…Bob Ilyich Dole FFS…when called Obamacare, rejected en masse by conservatives in polls for being too communist (except when asked about the exact same bill under it’s actual name (AHCA) their support almost doubled, but never mind)…your movement has been hijacked and was pretty bankrupt to begin with. It’s now filled with conspiracy nuts, bigots and sheisters and Christian nationalists, and frauds. Most Republicans believe life was better before civil rights movements saw equal rights given to women, minorities and the LGBT community, the overwhelming believe that the election was stolen, more than 90% believe that religious and nativist elements are essential parts of ‘true Americans’, 80-90% believe that ‘real America’…presumably comprised of those ‘true Americans’ is under threat by un-American liberals and a third believe violence would be justified/necessary to prevent that happening and a full quarter agree with Qanon. That’s the team you’re rolling with?

But let’s forget all of that and for argument’s sake say you’re right, it’s been nothing but moves to the left…to believe that you must either believe that America before 1865 was a million miles to the right, or somehow believe that America is not now demonstrably well to the right of center amongst western developed countries.

Or.

Or you think that one fraction of one country is right and everyone else is wrong. American Exceptionalism on steroids. I’m assuming it’s this last one.

A 100% no spin fact for you all.

It wasn't a raid by the FBI. No, no, no. It was pilgrimage. A group of pilgrims, who just happened to be FBI agents, wanted to visit the resting place of the Saint St. Ivana.  A mythical 20th century saint, who was rumored to heal the baldness of men through miracles. They just ended up at the wrong golf course. GPS fail. Fair mistake, happens to the best. I mean, have you never tried to fulfill your kid'S wish to visist Disneyland, and you ended up in Disney World instead?

NJ, Florida, Cali, Florida. It happens. Esp. with Florida. Where do you think all those Florida men come from? Cuba?

Trump wanted imaginery Nazi generals who follow his every whim, but he didn't want wounded veterans in his May Day cosplay parades.

If there was ever a more obvious, even ostentatious reason why every American should reject Trump and all he stands for, it is this.

The guy is a tinpot dictator at heart.

Or you think that one fraction of one country is right and everyone else is wrong...

James Arryn -- I was hoping! to get your thoughts on these points, but I didn't expect such a thoughtful and personal response. You've informed my principles more than anyone else here in the past few days. I'll try and consolidate my own thoughts within your framework.

Politics. You dislike minority conservatives winning the WH, whereas I dislike liberals / progressives winning. Ultimately, neither of us like one or the other of those options (voting power discrepancies, gun laws, wealth stratification, military industrial complex, moneyed interests as the real power-holders, domestic terrorism, conservative judges, racism and racism-lite, foreign support of right wing elements, anti-communism, poor conservatives backlash, politico manipulation of the masses, christian fundamentalist radicalization, et al); outcomes, but since there's nothing I can do, I've retired and bailed out, restoring my own sanity in order to find my success outside the collective. You haven't bailed (and it'll be interesting to see how you and your cohort behave over the next decade) and I sympathize.

Warfare. So, you've realized how insidious the "support thre troops" position is. I don't agree with it either, though there's a good argument in favor of it. And the USG has evolved their skill in this to the point where we were able to go decades without social backlash over foreign wars -- it's astounding, imo. I favor US imperialism, don't get me wrong, but it's undeniably a lucrative racket (unless you're one of the unlucky few who are mangled or killed).

Burn les socialistes! Kill the communist! Purge the Islamist! Add in music, glory, adventure, medals, money, status, and glamor, and you have what the State offers the most beutiful package of motivation that few ambitious men could deny.

"That's the team you're rolling with?" No, I'm not actively supporting a right wing that will inevitably lose (and neither will the smart money -- observe the underlying motives of the corporations). Moreover, although all your points, in parentheses above, may seem hopeless, they've mostly improved to some degree since 1783 (and enhanced since 1865; and confirmed indefinitely in 2020 when Donald was defeated).

The left has seized the (broken) field, and will continue to hold the (broken) field, but will never fix the (broken) field, because its filled only with (broken) people. The social strife I'm anticipating over the next 2-6 years is what I'm waiting to see. I want to know how the US free market capitalist system evolves (via chaos, fear, blood), so I can make an informed decision on how to proceed in the future.

"Or you think that one fraction of the country is right and everyone else is wrong." I think both sides are right and wrong, I just no longer have the will to participate (post-career, where I wielded only minimal impacts overseas, and none domestically). What I was trying to get at, because I suspect you're a Millennial or younger who holds some hope for a better country, is what are you going to do? Ballot, Buck, or Bullet (or, Bike-lock...)?

Welp, conservative Reddit is a real shit show right now. The key takeaway is that the federal government is the enemy and also they’re all Democrats. Also, Hunter Biden.

Hmm ... sounds volatile.

I'm not too concerned with a position he took 20 years ago given my hometown(ish) was still called Murderapolis in some areas.

I don't really care either way, but reading about the race this morning his "pro-police" cred seems far more recent and extensive than just that statement:

Quote

Don Samuels’ north Minneapolis base suffers from more violent crime than other parts of the city, and the moderate Democrat helped defeat a ballot question that sought to replace the city police department with a new public safety unit.

Omar has defended calls to redirect public safety funding more into community-based programs.

Samuels and others also successfully sued the city to force it to meet minimum police staffing levels called for in Minneapolis’ charter. Samuels says Omar, one of the leading voices in the national progressive movement, is divisive. He’s attracted big bucks to his campaign, though Omar as the incumbent has a significant cash advantage.

Moreover - and this I'm not a huge fan of - this appears to be what he's running on:

Quote

“I knock on the door, first thing I say is hi, I’m Don Samuels, I’m running for Congress. What is your number one issue? They say, ‘public safety, public safety, public safety.’”

Samuels says he thinks that issue gives him a chance for an upset victory over Democratic incumbent Congresswoman Ilhan Omar who was among the leading proponents of the “defund the police” movement.
