Did you ever hear about the guy who rented a crawl space in Manhattan for something like $500 a month? It was literally just a place to sleep and I don’t think the guy could even stand up in it. But, yes, the Doctor is being quite sweet @A True Kaniggit - NOW I FEEL REALLY OLD. I shake my cane at you. There are always stories like that.... Honestly, LES is tres chic and pretty pricey. If he's looking for cheap he will end up in East Harlem (long commute to downtown), Murray Hill (definitionally uncool) by the hospital, Jersey, or possibly Ridgewood Queens. Toth
Damn. I think this is the first time ever I saw Valentine's day expressed this publicly. Was constantly seeing girls clutching flowers they received today (and guys frantically lining up at flower shops). Had something happened to make it worse? As far as I picked stuff up, it sounds like some guys showed up with flowers this morning at school and this caused a cascading reaction where scores of other guys felt forced to rush the closest flower shop during break time as to not get their asses kicked. dog-days
Actually, it did seem to me that a lot more people that usual at Valentine's were buying flowers at the supermarket near my work. Admittedly, I was in a very studenty area, so that may have skewed things. But there were plenty of middle-aged men grabbing bouquets of hothouse roses in plastic wrap as well as the young ones. Not sure what's brought it on. Over here, my guess would be cost-of-living crisis. It's harder to afford to do anything genuinely fun, so people opt for a manageable token gesture. Starkess
My Valentine's flowers were lovely, as always. Fiance picked the ones with the orange roses because he knows it's my favorite color, and I loved the whole arrangement. Lots of bright yellows and purples too. I'm a sucker for color! We had a quiet early dinner at a nearby restaurant. They were having a V-Day special of a bottle of wine and 2 burgers, which we got, and we also started with a cocktail. We ate around 6 PM, by the time we went to bed at midnight I was hungover Poor fiance had to get up and work the next day too (I'm unemployed so I slept in) Erik of Hazelfield, Secretary of Eumenes, Madame deVenoge and 1 other
Madame deVenoge
My aesthetician, whom I’ve been seeing for 3 years, every two weeks (so, she knows me fairly well), today predicted that the Doctor and I will end up getting married soon. She said not to ask him his intentions quite yet, play cool, but she predicts a ring in 6 months. Tonight, we are planning our third trip to Europe… Secretary of Eumenes, Mlle. Reny of Storms End
Well after not dating for 18 years I went on four first dates in the past year. Ended up going all multiple dates with three of the four. Sadly was just told by the lady I had been seeing for about two months that she wasn’t interested anymore. So that sucks, I think I was too slow on getting physical. Overall though I feel very proud of myself for finally putting myself back out there and trying to meet someone. The last date I had been on before last year was when I was 18! VigoTheCarpathian, dog-days, Larry of the Lake and 9 others

Not sure what your comfort zone is about getting physical, but whatever you did for the first date, for the second try some sort of pool, darts, square dance (in theory, never done it myself) , whatever for a follow up where you can judge comfort level of proximity. For all I know you look like Tyrion and fuck like Walder, but from what you've said, I like your chances. Yes, judging really anyone’s comfort level in regards to proximity is something I struggle with. I’m tall and overweight (6’5 290), so I’ve always been aware of my size and how it can make some people uncomfortable or uneasy. I guess that’s made it harder for me to accept that people can be physically interested in me.

Not exactly the same, but I've always felt like that there is a percentage of women, maybe a quarter to a third, where tall is not only a plus attribute but quite desireable. And ask around, I have an odious personality. Not in a literal way but just keep putting it out there. Everyone has their own hang ups, but being taller has its advantages. Taller often does have advantages. There are many women who have a “height requirement”. Which is as insulting as a “weight requirement” would be for women. I, on the other hand, know that all men are the same height when on their backs. As far as important things are concerned. My general range for men, height-wise, is from 5’7” to 6’3”. Unless there are massively ripped abs involved, their bank accounts are of similar excellent quality. That said, the foregoing is only because I’m not a sugar mama, and they have to be able to keep up. Rin33
I’m trying to be done with dating. It’s not working out. My meager attempts at dating anyone are really bad. I’m still figuring out my dating goals and even figuring out my type. I’ve only dated one man and it was an online thing. I’m sure I’m behind in the class. The guy was so cute though. Anyway, I think my type is kind-hearted yet mischievous, funny, and I’m weirdly attracted to muscle tees. Now, as an evaluation, men are more appealing than others when they got money. I cannot say it for certain but I think I am like most women on that one.

I admit that maybe I…have a larger sample size…so, it’s perhaps more evident to me, but: 1. We all have a baseline of what we consider attractive: whether that standard is, for instance, “natural teeth” vs “Hollywood smile” is embedded within the social world of the individual. That said: 2. The first is simply table stakes. Just because someone looks like even a supermodel or a rock star or what have you as an Ideal doesn’t mean anything if the attraction isn’t there. Attraction is rare and fickle. Attraction is chemistry. Best to sort out one’s goals. Goals are logical and objective. BigFatCoward
I find it more helpful to think of it as good looking versus attractive. Plenty of good looking people aren't attractive, plenty of people who are not necessarily good looking, are very very attractive.
Madame deVenoge
So - The Doctor is contemplating buying his current condo, which he hates, because he doesn’t want to move again. Well, who in the hell DOES want to move again? I also really hate this condo. It’s on an insanely busy street and has zero soundproofing. Also, it is a tiny 1 bedroom 2 bath condo with a shitty floor plan and needs extensive renovations. I need to convince him that he needs to either live with me or buy a different place. Or, I have to be ok with the fact that we are never going to live together because of the damn condo.

HOWEVER, if the doctor is willing to pay for it, there are companies that will both pack and unpack and professionally organize you on the other end. I know for....reasons. Also living through renovations is not fun. I also know that for...reasons. Madame deVenoge

That said, he’s got such minimal stuff: he lived in 600 square feet for 20 years, and he’s now got 1,000 square feet, and he’s not a hoarder. The “buy the condo and renovate it” just makes me want to smh. You don’t buy something where you literally hate the structure of the whole thing. He just needs guidance. VigoTheCarpathian
Spring is a little crazy and with work pressures, dating has been…sane? Partner and I decided to take a pause on our other ENM relationships, and focus on dating and connecting with each another, which has been really wonderful - we had fallen into a strange pandemic routine, with me now working from home, and things were very stagnant and kind of domestic/lonely between us. Have done some adult dress-up events, a speakeasy steakhouse, strip club, standup comedy…it is starting to feel like the way it was, pre-pandemic, plus getting to be really intentional with each other after a long platonic period. Still having lunch and coffee “dates” with Misses M and V, but they both also have some hectic life things going, and were very gracious in stepping back into a friends-only space. I think / hope things are starting to feel more normal for a lot of people in that we are getting truly post-pandemic. Even last year, vaccinations or not could be a deal-breaker for some. I’ve been vaxxed for Covid five times, so, clearly, I’m a vaxxer But, I’m not going to judge someone just because they got the first two shots and then said “meh”. Madame deVenoge
Ethics question: is a one-time sexting session with a friend who lives thousands of miles away: a. Similar to having “lust in one’s heart” where it’s a little like having impure thoughts that will never be acted upon, b. Cheating, or c. No big deal? I’m going with a. And I still fantasize about my personal trainer from 2012.
