The research that I've seen on repetition and persuasion primarily has to do with beliefs about issues (such as whether the size of the Supreme Court should be increased, which is one of the ideas in question). I think self-aggrandizing remarks about one's own personal characteristics may be an exception, since the personal motive is more obvious, especially to those who didn't like the speaker in the first place. For decades they/FOX would decide on a talking point response to an event/debate/issue and then like acolytes there would be GOP mouthpieces repeating the talking point over and over again almost word for word* across the country, and sustain it until it was replaced by the same spin cycle about a newer event/debate/issue. Rinse, repeat. *meant literally. Like oftimes exactly word for word, sometimes with very slight variations all over, from FOX anchors/op-Ed’s, Republican politicians, down to small town anchors and everything in between, over and over and over. Like everything else he touches, Trump actually kinda reduced the precision and increased the chaotic element, making it kinda less effective from a purely strategic pr pov. But because so many of his craziest statements were handled this way and because of the drone like quality of many of his supporters, it’s served to really push pure fantasy/obvious outright lies and crazy conspiracy theories into mainstream politics and has an incredibly high % of Americans absolutely convinced in the veracity of a ton of gobbledygook that like 5 seconds of critical thinking/research would immediately dispel. In short, it took a previously well oiled machine that, while not entirely devoted to lies was at least largely unconcerned about truth and turned it into a frightening but effective Orwell meets Manson family outlet.
