Wouldn’t who she appoints also go a long way to determining what she can accomplish?

Yes!  Well, at least to an extent - and I am very interested to see who she does appoint.  But until she does a lot of what was discussed is definitionally jumping to conclusions.

But, in truth, I think underscoring privilege is already the most damage she can do.

Absolutely.  As I said repeatedly, how her decision impacts executive privilege is by far the most concerning aspect to me in terms of what's actually happened thus far.

I agree it should be pushed, absolutely - just like the GOP simply repeats lies until people eventually believe them i.e. the infamous Goebbels quote.  But at least until that is undertaken and actually starts working that's not Kelly nor any single candidate's responsibility.

The psychological research on persuasion does show that repetition is one of the most important factors in changing people's minds. The more often one hears something, the more likely one is to believe it, whether it is a bad idea or a good idea.

Maybe we all just needed to hear it more times(?) (though I gotta say I’d be probably trying to stab myself with a cookie if I had heard it more).

PS: there’s only one Keanu unfortunately. No American actor comes close!

The research that I've seen on repetition and persuasion primarily has to do with beliefs about issues (such as whether the size of the Supreme Court should be increased, which is one of the ideas in question). I think self-aggrandizing remarks about one's own personal characteristics may be an exception, since the personal motive is more obvious, especially to those who didn't like the speaker in the first place. Perhaps some of his unsophisticated followers have been helped by his repetition of things like this to idolize him more, however. :)

I have been calling Trump a fucking idiot for years. Eventually that may stick.

And that's just one of the many message-related things most Democrats don't seem to understand.

Speaking of Dems: Happy birthday Bernie!

I saw a breakdown of how masterfully the GOP has handled this since forever. For decades they/FOX would decide on a talking point response to an event/debate/issue and then like acolytes there would be GOP mouthpieces repeating the talking point over and over again almost word for word* across the country, and sustain it until it was replaced by the same spin cycle about a newer event/debate/issue. Rinse, repeat.

*meant literally. Like oftimes exactly word for word, sometimes with very slight variations all over, from FOX anchors/op-Ed’s, Republican politicians, down to small town anchors and everything in between, over and over and over. Like everything else he touches, Trump actually kinda reduced the precision and increased the chaotic element, making it kinda less effective from a purely strategic pr pov.

But because so many of his craziest statements were handled this way and because of the drone like quality of many of his supporters, it’s served to really push pure fantasy/obvious outright lies and crazy conspiracy theories into mainstream politics and has an incredibly high % of Americans absolutely convinced in the veracity of a ton of gobbledygook that like 5 seconds of critical thinking/research would immediately dispel.

In short, it took a previously well oiled machine that, while not entirely devoted to lies was at least largely unconcerned about truth and turned it into a frightening but effective Orwell meets Manson family outlet.

Jeff German, one of the few journalists covorting government corruption was murdered, suspect is a Dem official (Clark County Public Administrator Robert Telles) who lost his primary after negative reporting by German.

He reported on crime, courts, corruption, casino industry leaders and mob figures for decades in Las Vegas. This year, he spent months reporting on the turmoil surrounding Telles’ oversight of the public administrator’s office. (...)

Wolfson said Telles was arrested at his home after investigators received the results of DNA testing.

“The ultimate decision to arrest was on the part of the police,” the district attorney said. “But yes, I was notified of the forensic evidence finding of the DNA, and yes, I thought it was appropriate to arrest Mr. Telles at that point.” (...)

Lombardo said Telles was booked Wednesday night into the Clark County Detention Center on a murder charge.

At Thursday’s news conference, Capt. Dori Koren said search efforts turned up a straw hat and a pair of shoes that matched what a suspect was seen wearing in surveillance video recovered from German’s neighborhood.

Photos depicting the shoes and pieces of the hat were shown during the news conference.

“As you can see there is apparent blood on the shoes, and the shoes were cut likely in a manner to try to destroy evidence,” Koren said.

Borderline impressive resolve there for sentient hotdog water. Surprised he didn't just slough out the cuffs for the Press.

Smirkety smirk smirk indeed -- nobody does it better than these reichlicans. Unlike the previous generation's Big  Guy in The Unfolding novel, who is utterly self serious about destroying democracy with THE MONEY in order to save it.

When he starts to slough out the cuffs, does that mean he's begun to fight?  Asking for a friend.

Republicans to Trump: Pony up more cash in battle for Senate
The former president is sitting on $99 million — money Mitch McConnell wants spent on Trump-backed GOP hopefuls who are lagging in the money chase.

https://www.politico.com/

Quote

Mitch McConnell is indirectly nudging Donald Trump to help Republicans try to flip the Senate, part of a broader GOP campaign to get the former president to open up his well-stocked coffers for the rest of the party.

The minority leader is advising Trump-backed candidates and senators with good relationships with the 45th president to prod him to transfer millions of dollars from his leadership PAC to super PACs supporting Trump’s favored candidates, according to two people familiar with McConnell’s entreaty. Trump has repeatedly trashed McConnell over the past 18 months, including calling for his ouster as GOP leader. But the two have a shared goal of turning the Senate red.

The private push to get Trump to financially engage in a number of battleground states comes as the former president sits on roughly $99 million, stored in his PAC. That unused cash is drawing increased attention from GOP leaders as the midterms approach, with Trump’s own endorsed candidates lagging in polls and trailing their Democratic opponents in fundraising.
