Extraordinary cruelty - child abuse, that's TX.  These evil doers cannot go to hell soon enough

Mom says trans eighth-grader was questioned by Texas officials at school
A declaration recounting the incident was filed as part of an ongoing lawsuit by LGBTQ legal advocates

On the morning of Aug. 30, a 13-year-old transgender boy was pulled out of class by his school’s administrators, his mother says. While his classmates continued their studies, he sat in a conference room at a Texas middle school where a Department of Family and Protective Services investigator began asking personal questions, court records state.

The reason: The state agency was probing his family following a February directive from Gov. Greg Abbott (R) to investigate the use of gender-affirming care in minors as child abuse, according to court documents.

The nearly hour-long interview touched on a range of personal topics — from the teen’s medical history to his gender dysphoria diagnosis to his suicide attempt years back, court records state. The interrogation left the boy — identified under the pseudonym Steve Koe — shaking and distressed, according to a signed declaration from his mother, named as Carol Koe. ....

Really?

Yeah, dating back to FDR, who had three, VPs and Presidents were much more intraparty rivals.  There's long been rumors Eisenhower wanted to replace Nixon almost immediately after putting him on the ticket; JFK and LBJ's mutual animosity is well documented, as is Reagan and Bush I's.  Carter and Mondale had a very icy relationship as did Clinton and Gore.

Now, that's not to say Obama and Biden were/are BFF's - as a new book that's the talk of DC details - and it of course makes perfect sense that Biden was hurt Obama chose to support Hillary in 2016.  But, still, they've had a much more healthy professional relationship than pretty much every other example the past century or thereabouts.  Again, unless you count Dubya and Cheney, which...

Interesting.

Also do you think it’d be fair to say conflicting personalities and worldviews could be a strong reason for the animosity or apathy?

Personalities?  Absolutely and predominately.  Worldviews or ideology?  Sometimes but usually that wasn't really the problem.

Thought a lot of the animus was down to Clinton's scandal hurting Gore's chances of becoming President (or so he thought).

Well, more like Gore thought it would hurt his chances and thus ran away from Clinton during the 2000 campaign - which was really stupid - but yes, that certainly heightened the animosity.  Still, even before then, they were much more adversaries than colleagues.

Trump wants to split the cost of the special master with the government but the DOJ wants him to pay for it

In any case we know -- all the attorneys know -- he will stiff this bill too.

Republicans look to restrict ballot measures following a string of progressive wins
The state efforts are a direct threat to abortion-rights advocates and other liberal groups’ efforts to bypass governors and legislatures and take issues directly to voters.

Republicans across the country are working to make it harder to pass ballot measures — a direct threat to abortion-rights advocates and other liberal groups’ efforts to bypass governors and legislatures and take issues directly to voters.

The next major test for the strategy comes in November: Arizona and Arkansas’ GOP-controlled legislatures are asking voters to approve constitutional amendments that would raise the threshold for ballot initiatives from 50 percent to 60 percent. Arkansas’ proposal would apply to constitutional amendments and citizen-initiated state statutes on any subject matter, including abortion. Arizona’s applies only to taxation-related measures, though some see it as a prelude to a broader version.

“Our state constitution … should only be amended when there is genuine consensus among voters,” said Arkansas state Rep. David Ray, the Republican who sponsored the proposed amendment. "[The ballot measure] provides a much-needed guardrail so that big money, out-of-state special interests quit trying to hijack our state constitution and ballot initiative system by pulling the wool over voters’ eyes and effectively buying new laws and constitutional amendments.”

The Republican push to regulate ballot measures has escalated in recent years as citizen-led initiatives have been used to legalize marijuana, expand Medicaid, create independent redistricting commissions and raise the minimum wage in purple and red states.

Of course, 45 tried to have his VP killed, I feel you'd have to go back 200+ years to reach that level of animus.

Aaron Burr may have tried to commit treason, but to be fair he wasn't VP for most of that!

I'm frankly surprised it's taken them this long to go after ballot initiatives.

The lists of proposals for the special master have been submitted.

https://www.politico.com/news/2022/09/09/trump-special-master-doj-mar-a-lago-documents-00056015

The Justice Department proposed Barbara Jones, a former federal judge and Bill Clinton nominee who has filled the same special master role in three of the most politically sensitive investigations in recent years, including probes into Trump lawyers Michael Cohen and Rudy Giuliani.

Prosecutors also offered up former federal appeals court judge Thomas Griffith, a George H.W. Bush appointee who retired in 2020 from the powerful D.C. Circuit.

Trump, on the other hand, proposed Raymond Dearie, a retired chief federal judge and Ronald Reagan appointee in the Eastern District of New York who also served on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. Dearie, who most notably presided over the corruption cases against FIFA officials, also signed one of the warrants the FBI used to surveil 2016 Trump campaign aide Carter Page.

Trump’s lawyers also nominated Paul Huck Jr., who appears to have significant ties to figures in Trump’s orbit. The former Jones Day attorney advised Florida Gov. Charlie Crist in 2007-2008, serving in his administration at the same time Trump’s current attorney, Chris Kise, was also advising Crist, who was then a Republican but is now a Democrat. Huck is married to Barbara Lagoa, a federal appeals court judge Trump also considered for the Supreme Court. Lagoa is one of 11 judges on the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, where a three-judge panel is soon expected to consider DOJ’s appeal of Cannon’s special master order.

Another disagreement emerged over the timeline of the special master review. DOJ proposed that the review be completed by Oct. 17, while Trump’s attorneys argued that it would take more than twice as long, requesting 90 days for the process to play out.

Since Obama was elected with such a large voter turnout that voted for him They have realized that when it comes to numbers They lose, so getting rid of elections as anything but show elections is Their only way to keep power, so They've worked assiduously on that for years.

It's pretty funny Crist continues to be brought up in Trumpist shit while he goes about losing another statewide race.

If those are the parameters, sounds like worst case scenario is it's supposed to be done by the end of the year.

Looking at the 11th Circuit, 6 of the judges were appointed by Trump, 3 by Obama, and 1 each by Clinton and Dubya.  One seat is currently vacant, albeit Schumer/the Dems could confirm nominee Nancy Abudu relatively quickly if they wanted to.

No.  Don't really get why that's part of the discussion.  If the DOJ is able to indict him, the subsequent legal process is indeed likely to take years.  That was always the case.

Well, my point has always been that he's obviously trying to delay the whole process as much as possible. But that certainly explains why you thought assuming it might take up to 2 years (or beyond) was so outlandish! You had me a bit stumped there.

Ah, yes, that was definitely a big misunderstanding then.  Woulda said this before all the special master mishegoss - an indictment is very likely to be the best to hope for.
