San Fran, so so lucky they couldn't get a decent trade off for Jimmy G. This injury may save their season and get him another contract

I mean, the fact they kept Garoppolo certainly saved their season with Lance going down, but by the same token the injury itself certainly didn't.  And it sucks, hard.

Your #1 WR and #2 WR are out. You can't pass protect worth shit.

Jonathan Taylor had 9 rushes.

He didn't get hurt or nothin neither

(Oh, and that #2 WR is a second round rookie with two career targets, no catches, a drop, and now one missed game out of two eligible)

Sometimes I think about it and can't stop laughing. They dumped this fool after one year. Moron fuckwit opinionists were blathering about how much safer he was with the ball, because when you keep getting INTs stupidly altered into fumbles like some alternative tuck rule bullshit it makes your stats look marginally less absolutely putrid, and that's all that matters anymore; the numbers on the Chris Pontakia's stupid dum DumB Big Board that tells you what to think and how to bet -brought to you by Caesar's Casino and Hotel from GLITZY LAaaaaaS Veeegaaaas!

Do you have a crippling risk aversion deficit, a family timebomb you want to light the fuze on and get over with already, or a Mistress/Master threatening to go public? Come on down to GLITZY LAaaaaS Veeegaaaaas! -T.Y.'s nickname is Ghost but I straight up forgot he'd come back from that injury. Thought he moved to a WR farm up state. And that was during the winning streak! I watch every snap. He's washed. Wentz sucks. But so does Frank Reich. This dude couldn't coach himself out of a stopped car. He's a bum. He thought Wentz was good 'cause of like Jesus and shit. Like I don't care what you believe in, it's all yawns to me, but it's revealing -who- you believe in and why you believed in him. Like, this was your guy? The Carson Wentz. That's who you're going with?

Like i said. I laugh. At least they got rid of him. But I don't give no fucks about Matt Ryan. I had fun with Rivers because of the oddness and hilarity of it. But, like, anyone with two working eyes knew he was DONE three weeks into the 2020 season. I'm not particularly interested in that. And I love having good lines but translating the #3 pick into a LG you're about to pay 22 million a year and an off-ball Linebacker (with a degenerative ankle injury that he chose not to have surgery on) that you're paying 19 million a year... It'd be different if the O-line was good. And if the defense wasn't only good when playing the Jaguars (sometimes).

It's bizarre and confusing that this team is so tight fisted with money and non-adventurous in FA but they're somehow ancient at key positions, have exhausted that ginormous pile of carryover cap money, and  have no future to speak of. RB wheels fall off fast. Ryan is gonna be 37 I think. TY sucks. Highly paid Center and RT both suck now, always missing games. The Shade of MVPs-Last-Decade is making like thirteen mill for the next two years at cornerback while the "BEST SLOT CORNER IN THE GAME" -who played like he'd slept on a pile of smallpox in week 17- wants more money because he keeps hearing/reading on fan sites that he's "THE BEST SLOT CORNER IN THE GAME" when really he's just, like, pretty good. Rarely below average, I'd say. Which is a good thing for a cornerback, but a long way from some kinda star.

And look, I like Yanick Ngokue as a player. But this dude has been on like five teams in four years, and they all keep investing in upgrades over him when they send him packing. And you're acting like you just solved your D-line???

This team hasn't had a single QB pressure since Robert Mathis retired.

I am not surprised

Why, unless you're just being cynical to have fun? The Colts looked like a 12 win team heading into the season. Now I'm not even sure they'll win the division.

Pretty amazing still to me how wrong virtually everyone was about Allen and what a crazy leap he made.

That's because something like this really hasn't happened before. It's the weirdest QB story since Warner.

Fun is for children.

I spelled it out in May.

Ryan is washed. Reich is a fucking idiot. The defense is built to shaken to death by quality QBs. Gilmore is washed. No WRs (Pittman is a good young player he ain't no star) and the o-line is an overrated overpaid shambles.

I saw this coming and am glad to see it passed

Eh, even with those concerns I'd still expect the Colts to be a good team this year. I find it hard to believe anyone could predict they'd be this bad out the gate.

I really don't think the 7th overall pick in the draft compares to someone who went undrafted and spent four seasons in Arena football and NFL Europe.

Allen wasn't a good college QB while not ever making it to D1 and never completed more than 59% of his passes at any level from JH through his second year in the pros and then had one of the most insane jumps ever in skill and quality. Warner is the only guy I can come up with where the sudden leap is that head scratching.

Except Warner's leap wasn't sudden at all.  He was 28 before he started a NFL game and 27 before he made a NFL roster.  Allen might have went to a random school up in the northern plains states, but that's very comparable to Carson Wentz two years earlier.

I'd call going from an AFL player to MVP of the NFL a shocking leap.

The Wentz comparison makes sense on its face, but there's a good deal of nuance underneath it. Wentz went to one of the best D1-AA/D2 schools and won a few titles as the starter, and though some were skeptical of taking him as high as second overall, I don't recall many people saying it was a terrible idea. Allen, OTOH, went to a meh D2 school and wasn't very good. His college highlight was being named second team All-Mountain West. Not very inspiring. Most of the NFL analysts I trust thought he'd suck as a pro, which he did for the first two years. And then he because arguably a top three QB overnight and the MVP favorite going into the last two seasons. I can't really find another example of someone taking off like that, which is why Warner comes to mind.

I mean, if you're not preoccupied with the college they went to, Mahomes went off like that.  It's just really off to compare a guy that clearly had all the physical tools and abilities - and was drafted accordingly - to a literal journeyman who came out of nowhere long after he probably should have given up even trying to make it in the league.  Doesn't make sense to me.

Mahomes was jaw dropping from the beginning in the pros and in retrospect we can blame Kliff for not being a great coach. And when you say Allen had all the tools, I'd push back and say he was big, strong and fast with a cannon for an arm, but again his accuracy was putrid, which was the major red flag. I cannot think of another QB who never averaged above 59% through every level he played at from JH through the pros then it jumped by 10%. That's a wild statistical outlier.

You seem really fixated on this stat when it's predominately just trivia.

Not exactly. It's more that basically every thing people use to predict success in the NFL pointed to Allen being a bust. And this isn't particularly close, mind you - things like returning to Wyoming for another season and doing worse has been a massive sign of utter garbage for, like, 30 years.

I don't follow enough anymore to know - do we have an actual answer for that season to season turnaround? And the weirdest thing is that it happened in year 3 - why?

Um, dunno what you mean by "basically every thing," but anyone using a single rudimentary stat like completion percentage to predict success in the NFL is a really bad data analyst.  And let's not rewrite history here, Allen had tons of hype throughout his final season even until after it.  It was a relatively disappointing season, sure,  but comparing that to Kurt Warner is just silly.
