The Russians pushed the lines back out from the airport but in the last few days the Ukrainians have pushed back in again. So this could just be a return to the natural status quo lines of the area or a renewed push. Werthead Posted September 10, 2022 Author Share Posted September 10, 2022 One interesting analysis that the equipment given to the Ukrainians, plus captured from Russia plus what exists in their stocks should be enough to equip either three or four battlegroups, each about the size of a US division. One battle group appears to be active in Kherson and one in Kharkiv Oblast. At least two more could be extant but not committed. Logically you'd hold one in reserve, but it means that Ukraine could be preparing for a third offensive and will move as soon as Russian defences and counter-strikes start building up on the Kharkiv front. The smart money would be to hit Zaporizhihia, because it could hasten the collapse of the Kherson front and between the two forces, they could then assemble a new group to clear out the land corridor (although you'd also need to hold strong defensive forces on the Crimean line). Zaporizhihia's north and NE front has been looking shaky for a while anyway. The alternative would be to smash into Donbas directly and start looking to capture all of Donetsk Oblast and maybe invade Luhansk. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I meant irritating not because the comparison isn't apt, but rather because we weren't exactly crossing our fingers for the Taliban back then. From looking it’s a pretty large city (close to a million) but I guess a lot of people have fled so it’s probably smaller now. Still a hard city to hold if the population there is still anti Ukraine.
