You left out the best line from that thread:

If the Russians abandon Nova Khakovka to retreat across the Inhulets, then I will be really surprised.  It would be such an amateur move.  Even I can see it will only end in disaster and I don't know anything about military shit.

Not counting Starcraft I suppose.

Maithanet -- au contraire, some of the better military minds I've come across are amongst the well-read amateur. Likewise, some of the best (tactical-level) "warfighters" are innovative civilians (cosplay airsofters and paintballers vs standard vet-bros; or, UKR conscripts vs RUS volunteers), able to do more with less.

One weird thing looking at the pics of soldiers is ofc their kit/gear looks similar so they distinguish themselves by paint on vehicles (cross vs Z) and duck tape on helmets/arms. It somehow doesn’t surprise me that Ukraine is blue and Russia red given the use of those colors in US politics.

There you have it folks. Be very wary of suspicious people people taking photos while you're LARPing else you might end up finding yourselves all coincidentally called to the front-lines early and all at the same time from what should be a random draw drafting process.

Arakasi -- additionally, another tell is that RUS Soldiers have to provide some of their own medical supplies (e.g., their girlfriend's tampons to plug their bullet wounds).

The Anti-Targ -- draftees tend to be civilians. Amusingly, this potential draftee probably experienced more combat than the recruiter he almost killed.

Another hot take folks, LARP is now the 5th branch of the military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, LARP Force). You don't get drafted, you simply get put on active duty. I myself would no doubt be private fist class in the 5th Mage regiment specialising in magic missiles. Our front line would be the tank brigade, single handed melee weapon with +1 shields.

Per @Maithanet all the Star Craft players will be safely at HQ operating the tactical map.

The Anti-Targ -- there's actually six.

Ewwww you are actually counting the Coast Guard? :P :leaving:

I genuinely thought the Marines were part of Navy though.

The Anti-Targ -- yes, of course; commisioned a few of them and they were amongst the brightest, more so than the average Soldier, hahaha. On the Marines, they are a part of the Navy.

:leer:

Army. Fighters.

Marines. Paladins.

Navy. Clerics.

Air Force. Mages.

Space Force. .

Coast Guard. Rangers.

Apologies, I base my entire understanding of the US organisational military on the excellent Netflix Space Force documentary expertly narrated by Gen. Steven Carell.

I tried to watch that and I didn't think it was funny. Is it still on?

Firebrand Jace -- nah, cancelled. I couldn't even get through one episode.

Druids?

The Anti-Targ -- no, the Space Force will ascend all player character classes, if we really want to get seriously nerd. Incidentally, a peer of mine went to the Air Force (via the Academy) before switching over to the Space Force. He'll be amongst its first general officers (imo) if he stays in long enough.

It felt like the opportunity was there. The cast seemed good. But there weren't no jokes!

Firebrand Jace -- Steve Carrell, too! How could they mess that up?

Well, looks like @Maithanet derailed this thread again.

I liked it well enough, watched both seasons, I could have enjoyed a third, but it was possibly becoming tapped out. Perhaps it's my completely bereft of anything military or American brain.

It's not a patch on that other awesome British documentary about WW I narrated by Gen Sir Anthony Cecil Hogmanay Melchett, VC, KCB, DSO, but I was entertained.
