Ormond
I thought there was a thread on this from previous years but can't find it right now. Any way, the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine has been awarded to Svante Paabo for his discoveries about human evolution using genetic analysis. I've seen him interviewed many times on science programs the last few years. It's fun to see someone who I actually have heard about get a Nobel for something other than literature. And I have found his research fascinating. In addition to his discoveries on the Neanderthal genes in modern humans, if I remember correctly he's shown how the spread of certain Y chromosomes from east to west across Europe correlates with the arrival of the Yamnaya peoples and the spread of Indo-European languages. O yes, providing the capacity to learn so much about our more distant history regarding the development of languages an what that tells us further. I enjoyed listening to the interviews with him today.
Ormond
The Nobel prize in Physics has been awarded to three scientists for their work in quantum mechanics. Their win seems to be no suprise to experts in the field who've been expecting it for a decade. https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/04/europe/nobel-prize-physics-winner-2022-intl-scn/

They rather give it to American bankers than to international scientists (are economists scientists?) Those economists then take their credentials and gamble them away in the Wallstreet casino.
