considering the majority of Tory party members chose Truss just a few weeks ago, I'm not sure their judgement is to be relied upon as to what makes a good PM.

Honestly, guys, I thought no one could touch the US (in terms of senior democracies) when it came to crazy politics. The US outstripped the Italians a long, long time ago.

But I guess ‘hold my beer’ has just become too popular.

What’s next, asking if it’s safe to travel to the UK? :P

As fun and schadenfreudy this whole UK Truss own goal has been, I still think it's far more healthy of a situation than what the US has and still does not hold a candle to that level of dysfunction. Except perhaps in the humor category.

Having a country that occasionally decides on bad leadership and then almost immediately pivots to something better due to mass outrage and condemnation is not as bad off as a country that has atrocious leadership and does nothing or actively rewards it.

That's not really an accurate descriptor of what's been happening, to be honest. It's been a steadily descending line in the quality of PMs since the Tories took over, and the only reason Truss has been apparently removed from effective power so quickly is because she quite literally edged close to collapsing the country within a month. The replacement policies here aren't going to be good- they're just going to be less immediately catastrophic.

Oh the US is tittering on fascism with people in government loudly proclaiming democracy to be evil, and the sexual minorities are coming to rape your kids, and immigration is a plot to kill the white race etc.

Maybe the UK catches up in a few years though.

Don't worry about it.  He's a compulsive who follows me around the board clicking on confused and laughing emojis to indicate insanity at any comment I make because everybody needs a hobby.

True, but it’s also not like it was some great win for democracy either. Truss and Kwarteng came up with a mad plan that scared the shit out of the markets and it was essentially the markets that did for them. There wasn’t any sort of popular uprising or triumph for the ballot box and we are unlikely to now have anything very much better either.

We'll know the Tories have gone full Republican when they seriously try to push gun culture in the UK.
