Apparently Truss voted after all.

But in order to stopnthe chief and depity whips from resigning, those who didnt vote face punishment.
Johnson, May and Kwarteng are anong those who didnt vote.

Pretty sure Johnson is off on a beach somewhere, giggling at the chaos left in his wake.

No excuse apparently as whips said slips would not be accepted. Whether that’s still the case, dunno.

But given some Tories want him back, Truss may ise it as an excuse to off him and May. Also, can be pretry sure most of those who abstained sent letters to Brady, and so their letters wont count of whip removed

Right, so now the Tory MPs who didn't vote are to be punished, which means the vote of confidence that wasn't a vote of confidence was a vote of confidence after all?

Except the Transport Secretary just said that it wasn't, also refusing to say that Truss will lead the party into the next election.

Please can we have a written constitution?

The BBC just reported on the radio that the 1922 committee has received over 100 letters of no confidence in the Prime Minister (!). Sir Graham Brady is apparently meeting Truss now to inform her that her position is untenable.

Why is the 1922 committee called the 1922 committee?  Because it was created in 1922?  The code section its existence is based upon?

The 1922 committee is made up of backbench MPs (i.e. MPs who are not in the Cabinet, or front benches) of the Conservative Party. They basically make decisions based on the overwhelming feeling in the Parliamentary party, and prevent the frontbenchers from ruling over the party like a dictatorial body.

Ironically, the committee started sitting in 1923, but based on the 1922 intake of MPs.

What’s Graham Brady’s current death count on Tory PMs?

This will be three, given that Cameron resigned of his own accord as a matter of conscience.

At least if Truss goes now, she can take solace in the knowledge that she lasted longer than Brian Clough at Leeds United, and David Blaine fasting in a glass box.

She needs to make it to the end of today to beat Blaine

Have you seen how that's going for us? You're making a wish on a monkey's paw here.

There are no perfect solutions in politics. But at least MPs should be able to understand the constitutional significance of something they are being asked to vote on.

Truss surely will be resigning in a few minutes.
