Meanwhile progressive dems decide to shoot themselves in the dick and pressure Biden and the admin to push for peace faster. Which is also what Republicans want, so that's nice.

They're already trying to walk it back - House progressives weigh retraction of Russia-diplomacy letter amid Dem firestorm:

Quote

House progressives are considering withdrawing a letter calling on President Joe Biden to engage in direct diplomacy with Russia less than 24 hours after it sparked intense backlash from other Democrats, according to two people familiar with the matter.

The about-face comes as some Democratic lawmakers vent their fury that the letter backing talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin — originally drafted and signed in June — wasn’t recirculated before its public release on Monday. That release made it appear that the 30 House Democrats who signed on, all lawmakers in the roughly 100-member Congressional Progressive Caucus, were urging the Biden administration to push for diplomacy immediately despite Russia’s engagement in war crimes and indications of a military escalation against Ukraine.

A Russian nationalist explains that sexual assault of recruits is all about discipline and is a long standing tradition in the Russian military.  We’re all happy that was cleared up.

So... it's not gay, just rape. That's alright then

Personally, I'd continue to troll that Russian guy ad nauseam. I mean, the follow up questions would be what he enjoyed more sexually. Sucking dick for mother Russia, or having his dick sucked by another guy. Then with how many guys he has slept with in his line of duty.

Also, did he swallow it? (be A-G-G-R-E-S-S-I-V-E)

One of the most startling shots of the entire war was a Ukrainian loitering drone that dropped munitions on a Russian position where, very clearly, the two soldiers were engaged in full coitus. Presumably they at least went out happy.

One soldier realised the other had failed to monitor the skies for enemy drones, and manfully carried out the correct punishment as the payload landed on their position.

Ah, yes, the manliest of Russian qualities, gay rape.

That is fine then, carry on being Russian in full panoply.

Excellent rational argument, 10/10.

To be fair, it's not truly Russian unless it's bareback on a bear's back.

Historically, British boarding schools took much the same view.

In terms of rape / sexual assault as punishment, then historically, more-or-less the entirety of humanity has taken the same view; and pre-human too given how common the same thing is as a dominance display in other animals.

Historically, hiding homosexuality behind being "normal and punitive" will have been as common as homophobia.

Very much so, in the ancient world.  If a husband caught an adulterer in the act, raping him, or giving him to his slaves to rape, was the norm.

Yeah, as long as you are not passive side everything is ok.

This is part of dyedovshchina, organized system of bullying younger/weaker soldiers in Russian (soviet) army. It existed also in Polish army up to the 90's, was called fala (the wave). I guess at some point it existed in many armies, but in Russia this is still alive and kicking. I wonder if - to some extent - this is a reason why the orks are so orkish.

I think it has much to do with criminal subculture and customs. It is striking that jailbirds explain their homosexual activities exactly how the Russian grunt does: "We are not gay, this is how we punish"
