Fragile Bird
2 hours ago, Spockydog said: They left out my reason for not drinking. Every time you take an alcoholic drink, you are literally poisoning yourself. I have a few beers twice a year. At Christmas, and when I go on holiday. You know when and how I found that out? I was about 12 and found my brother’s stack of James Bond novels, and read Goldfinger. Goldfinger lectures Bond about how poisonous alcohol is, especially alcohol aged in charred barrels. If you’re going to drink, he says, only drink colorless alcohol. I suspect that discussion has always been at the back of my mind as a moderating influence, though it didn’t prevent a number of stupid events from occurring anyway. And I do allow myself wine about once a week. Spockydog
Spockydog
Aye. There's a reason why people say, "What's your poison?" Yet Cruella Braverman says weed is more harmful than whiskey, and wants to make it a Class A substance. Raja
Alright children, let's talk about trailers. Now, I've become the sort of person who doesn't watch trailers anymore because they give too much away - not in terms of plot, though sometimes they do that, but more in terms of visuals, character beats, dialogue or plot, especially as when I'm watching the movie, I'll end up remembering some scene from the trailer and be like 'oh, he can't die here, x scene hasn't happened' - or it'll ruin some stunning visual. All this has made it impossible to watch trailers and I avoid them as much as I can With that being said, I present an antidote to this, with the first teaser trailer of Interstellar - it gets across a feeling or emotion of the movie, without giving anything away at all ( even visually) - when are we going to get more trailers like this? ( Also, since I have posted about Nolan, I imagine polishgenius will be summoned to this thread ) Reny of Storms End

RhaenysBee
I admit to debating a little if I should post this in the international events thread. Because it’s certainly not irrelevant: I have heating again!!!! I’m so happy I could cry. There’s hot water, the radiators are hot, it’s no longer 14C in the back rooms, it’s no longer 16C in the bathroom. No freezing if I leave the living room, no more starting starting the AC at 7am so it’s not 16C by the time I get up, no more putting on a puffer gilet if I want to do a load of laundry well has this been an educational 4 weeks, or what. And I could have had it soooooo much worse. And to think that my grandparents grew up like this and weren’t bothered… what a wuss I am. A relieved and abundantly grateful wuss, who learned her lesson. williamjm, JGP, LongRider and 8 others

We stayed strong till end of November but after a week with 12 degrees in the house and my wife and the kids having a long weekend at home we finally gave up and turned on the heating. I can't imagine how it is not to have that option. RhaenysBee

Man of Steel did a similar job to that Inception one, which given that Nolan was still involved with DC at the time probably isn't a coincidence either. I think my favourite of trailers similar to that is Tree of Life, albeit it did have plenty of visuals from the film. It just didn't tell you anything about the film because the film also didn't tell you anything about the film.

Oh dear that’s so cold The last time I dared to check I had 14C in the back rooms, but it got significantly colder in the past two weeks so it probably went down a couple degrees from there. But now… I step into the back bathroom and the tiles are warm under my feet and I don’t need a jacket to load the washing machine
