Braavos and Daenerys

Recommended Posts

How do you think that the people, authorities and various groups of Braavos see Daenerys Targaryen and her campaign to end slavery in Essos ?

Do you think that she's viewed in a positive way by braavosi given their hatred of slavery ? Or are they cautious and wary of her and her dragons given their history with valyrians ?

Or could it be a mix of both ?

How do you think that their views of her will evolve in TWOW and ADOS ?

The Sellsails that docked at Braavos, the ones that spilt from Stannis' fleet and taken in wildling slaves at Hardhome, learmed it  the hard way that Braavos is still very much anti slavery. If there's still any logic left, they should've sent Dany envoys over land and sea as soon as they first heard of her to tell her they will aid her in whatever way they can. Not that they can aid her in anyway though, being on the opposite end of Essos.

Mix of both I'd say.

From the WoW Mercy sample chapter, it seems like an election for next Sealord is coming up. This could signal a change in policy for Braavos.

They would strongly approve of her anti-slavery campaign.

They would greatly fear the emergence of a new great power, conquering Western Essos.

I think the shrewdest course would be to offer to act as her banker and chief naval ally, as Genoa did with Imperial Spain, while making clear they will tolerate no infringements of their independence.

Or they could be early medieval Venice to her Byzantium.  They will patrol shipping lanes between Meereen and Kings Landing, in return for trading rights.

If the situation really doesn't seem favourable for them I think a few faceless men will be coming Daenerys' way.

Pro her slavery ending but anti dragons returning  esp in as uncontrolled manner as dany has them.

They gotta be thinking  that with the dragoms =  Best case she establishes a new  dragon backed dynasty  but this one knows of bravoos existance thus theyl constantly have a threat hanging over them (unless the faceless men prune any mad kings)  but  worst case the flying wmds begin breeeding uncontrolled with almost no one knowing how to bond or control them!!!

King Jaehaerys had dragons but they used the threat of the faceless men to keep him in line. They could do the same with Daenerys.

The Sealord signed a pact to restore King Viserys III to the throne of Westeros.  The Sealord may have given shelter to Ser Willem Darry and the young Targaryens before.  I believe Braavos will be supportive of Daenerys Targaryen and her claim to the iron throne.   There is a probability that the Sealord was the one who really gifted the three dragon eggs to Princess Daenerys on her wedding day to Khal Drogo.  The eggs were hers by right.  Westeros is hers by right.

I would think their distrust of Dragons would out weigh their sense of hope that she would crush the slave trade. The slave trade hasn't even been eradicated today and human trafficking is huge. Dragons on the other hand are a flying nuclear weapon that could destroy slave cities and free cities alike, should the nuke wake up on the wrong side of the bed and have a tantrum. A wild animal is wild, even a dog can bite its owner. Dragons are a calculated risk a banking city would sum up as too much a risk. While bankroll a building project or give out loans in a world so precarious as one with dragons existing?

Aegon and Balerion helped Braavos.  The city of Braavos is not against dragons.  They are against slavery.  Daenerys gave the hope of freedom to the slaves in Essos.  Braavos will be on Team Daenerys and they will support her right to rule Westeros.

Braavos is kind of an odd duck. They abhor slavery, but they profit it from it nonetheless. They have no love for dragons, but if Dany takes the Iron Throne and honors the Baratheon debt, would they be OK with her?

And I'm assuming that when you say "the braavosi" you mean the Sealord and other leading citizens. Like all societies, the entire population does not think with one mind. So my questions in all of this are, will the current rulers of Braavos still be in power when/if they need to make some decisions about Dany, or will the Iron Bank, and therefore Braavos, exist for much longer at all?

True.

So the other issue  is dragons breeding again with virtualy  no one left to know how to properly control them...like a medieval 'reign of fire'
