Because boycotting does nothing if you're just going to turn around and consume all of FIFA's other content. Blood Cup is happening, might as well enjoy it. Or quit it entirely. Half measures achieve nothing.

You have a fairly poor grasp of pretty much everything about football but tend to pontificate on it a lot.

FIFA is not the NFL. It is in a loose sense the overarching regulatory body of football but their connection to things outside of international football or even just World Cup football is fairly minimal. 95% of FIFA as an organisation’s revenue comes from World Cups. If there was a significant drop in viewing figures they’d absolutely care. It’s probably not going to happen but let’s not pretend that people choosing to continue to watch despite all the shit isn’t why FIFA can carry on like they do.

WHAT A FUCKING NIGHT

I would guess that Liverpool seeking a sale, right after the Chelsea sale, has lit a fire under them.  They don’t want to wait for the best potential buyers to get tied up elsewhere.

Or, Ronaldo is the rapist hero who broke the spirit of the Glazers at last.  You can choose your narrative as you wish.

Where are you seeing this? Because after reading a few business articles all I could find is an estimate that 95% of their broadcast revenue came from the 2018 WC during that cycle which made up around half of their overall revenue, and that their profits from this for a single tournament generated more than entire leagues can make in a year outside of the PL.

I'm talking about you in particular not Americans in general. You can be new to a sport and enjoy it but at least try and keep a lid the sweeping judgments on on pretty much everything.

It's the commonly quoted number with pretty much every article discussing the subject. I'm sure there's some variation but, whatever, it's clearly were the vast majority of their revenue comes from. If you really care to go into the minutiae FIFA do publish financial reports on World Cup cycles.

I'm not one to care about tradition just because it's tradition. If I was new to baseball I'd have a lot of questions for the gatekeepers of that sport as well. Far more than this sport if we're being honest.

I did, but this isn't my field so I could have misread something. The number I first found was I believe from Forbes in a Yahoo article, which again was about how broadcasting rights from the 2018 WC made up about half the revenue in that cycle for FIFA as a whole. The FIFA report I just looked at is about projections for this cycle (so since 2019), which highlights the value of broadcasting rights from the WC, but it's not 95% of their overall revenue. It's their most important stream of revenue, but it's not everything. I'm actually surprised, if I'm reading this correctly, how little gate revenue they get. Makes sense they could give zero fucks about where it's actually held.

Am I like the only one, who hasn't actually watched a game from this atrocity.

I've skipped all the matches so far. Not because of some moral high ground or anything like that, I'm just not interested in it at all, after all the changes to regular World Cup format and reasons for those changes. To be honest, I find it surprising how easy it is to avoid the whole thing for now.

This is definitely the international football tournament which has had the least buzz, not just me personally but just in general it seems like far less people are talking about it.

I have watched a couple of games, the enjoyable ones, and skipped the more obviously dull ones which include Denmark or Poland.

Morally I did consider skipping it, but I see there is a level of hypocrisy there. Yes I can not watch the World Cup as a moral objector, but then what if I watched the WC in Russia? There would be plenty of reasons to not watch that, the same thing applies to Beijing Olympics. It would be hard to find many international sporting events that aren't some horrendous excuse for sportswashing.

My main problem with this World Cup is how it's been so blatantly bought and paid for. Sure, I'm not naive enough to think it's the first time that this type of a tournament has been awarded to a less worthy candidate but it's the first time it's been done so openly. Qatar's bid was "summer WC, AC in all the stadia, blah blah blah" only to have them change every single thing off that list.

Watching the WC at the end of autumn, in cold weather and rain, is weird to me. It changes the tradition and all the rituals I do when watching the WC matches. Still, it is the World Cup, not Northern Hemisphere Cup or Europe Cup and changes need to be made from time to time to suit the rest of the world. I wouldn't mind one bit if it was hosted by a proper football country, not rich upstarts who think they can buy anything, including everyone's silence.

Apparently all the stadiums grew overnight and average capacity is now 12% bigger. Im guessing they are doing this to try and justify the empty seats.

The capacities were all increased because, despite all the empty seats, the "official" attendance figures were higher than the advertised capacity.

In Qatar being Qatar news, a Brazilian journalist brought along the flag of his home state of Pernambuco Here's what it looks like.

Naturally, Qatari police approached him, confiscated and stepped on the flag thinking it was a LGBTQ+ one, and ordered the video he had of them doing that deleted. But some people filmed part of the mess, and it's here on his Twitter in case anyone wants to check it out.
