This...has nothing.

Not nothing—a ton more work and potential of mockery by Elon for if/when his decisions worsen Twitter’s precarious situation and attacks by his far right fan base as being lazy parasites trying to ruin free peaches on Twitter.

Who wouldn’t want that/s

Management like Musk is why more  people are quie quitting and regular quitting.

Musk's obsession with Mars makes more sense in that context of empire-building and control.

The absolute worst-case scenarios for climate change will still leave Earth a million times more inhabitable than Mars at its absolute best-case scenario. The cost of colonising Mars will be astronomical, to the tune of trillions of dollars, probably per year, for hundreds of years. Based on cold logic and rationality there is no logical reason to attempt to "colonise" Mars en masse in the same we that Europeans colonised the Americas, it's just not feasible. Scientific bases and outposts, sure, but us living on a Mars with a breathable atmosphere in anything less than millennia is ludicrous (Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy manages to get it down to 200 years from the point of first landing and even that requires 100% of his terraforming ideas to work first time and even better than expected, and that would still bankrupt the human race).

To ensure the future survival of the human race, it makes far more sense to spend just a fraction of the money on a Mars colonisation effort on making Earth more habitable once again.

It’s a mistake to treat Musk’s stated aims as genuine.

Example him floating around building a hyper loop to dissuade California building a high speed rail system and never committing any resources to building a hyper loop.

I’ll be surprised if musk ever actually thought he’d be alive when more than a smattering of people could even touch Mars much less colonize it.

His yammering is more hype up Space X from maladjusted men who thinks musk is just like because he makes references and memes.

Believe Them.  What They Say, They mean.  People have been being silly about These Ilks forever, while They tell us exactly what They want and will do any time They can.

That you may know better, be smarter, doesn't play into They mean what They say They expect and want.

In terms of doing some evil shit(crack down on internal worker dissent)  that’s a good rule of thumb, but in regards promises to do something that’d actually be in public interest, be highly skeptical.

Elon freely admits now the hyper loop was a meme.

Like buying Twitter was supposed to be.

So... not sure if it's been mentioned, but what Musk is asking (long hours with no additional renumeration, getting fired if you don't comply) isn't exactly legal in most western countries outside of the US. Not sure how he plans to square that circle. Close down the international offices?

I've been wondering about this for a bit. Musk's plan could legally work in the US, ignoring the obvious operational issues, but how many countries in Europe are going to take it? My guess is there's going to be a lot of push back and that will ultimately do a ton of damage to his plans.

Ignoring of course that small detail of alienating your workforce on a whim with hairbrained ideas that seems to almost welcome a mutiny.

In the IT industry people just move on to somewhere else. Once a company starts going downhill like Twitter obviously is then there is no point in trying to stay on and fix it. Except just possibly if Musk walks away (or is pushed) in the very near future.

I always assumed that the space/Mars plans of the escape faction among the billionaires are just a temporary thing. Just places to far away during the collapse of the biosphere and the *climate wars. The bunker/island faction is probably more sensible. The biggest concern of the billionaires that makes worst case plans like that is how to keep control of their servants.

Aye. During societal collapse, your ex-special forces private security goons will probably decide to kill you and take your compound and all the rest of your shit for themselves.

Musk, defending his Tesla pay, says he’ll shift focus from Twitter
In court over his Tesla compensation, the billionaire downplays distractions despite sleeping on the floor at his new social media firm

Account of Musk in the courtroom yesterday, in the trial concerning his Tesla compensation, and using shareholder corp's employees doing work for his private corp.

The plaintiffs are making the case in the trial that Musk wanted an astronomical pay package from Tesla to fund his plans for exploring and creating colonies on Mars. Musk acknowledged that’s a goal of his.

Quote

.... Under questioning from the plaintiffs’ lawyer, Greg Varallo, Musk defended bringing Tesla engineers to Twitter to evaluate Twitter’s engineering staff ahead of mass layoffs at the social media site. He said their participation was “voluntary,” “after hours” and “a minor thing.” Pressed as to whether anyone on Tesla’s board had contacted Musk to suggest that it might be problematic to use a public company’s employees to help his other private company, Musk said he did not recall any such conversation.

The trial highlights Musk’s singular position as a top executive of five companies at once, and calls into question whether the unorthodox terms of his leadership at Tesla are in the best interests of the automaker’s shareholders, or of Musk himself. It’s the second time in two years Musk has testified in a trial stemming from a Tesla shareholder lawsuit. In a 2021 case that questioned his role in Tesla’s 2016 acquisition of his cousins’ solar panel company, SolarCity, Musk prevailed. ....

But presumably a person working as a doctor in ER is doing it in part because it helps society and is healing people and saving lives. Working at twitter when there is not societal benefit and there are thousands of other tech jobs out there that pay just as well without the headaches and stress. So really not exactly a good comparison.
