NBA - The upside down

Jokic is insane, 40 27 10.

Imagine if he was 'athletic'. Inside his head must be like the matrix.

ImagIne if Dallas or GSW misses the play in and gets No 1 pick. Luka could do with some help, but GSW would be such a piss take.

Having to dodge knives thrown at you by your older brothers as a little kid while growing up in a war torn country, the ultimate form of training it appears.

I watched the Bulls game Wednesday and some of the disaster from yesterday. They are legitimately bad. No cohesion, just a bunch of guys doing their own thing forcing dumb shots. Horrible defense. Ugh.

Blow this thing up. They’re in in-between hell right now. Just go for the top 4 now with this class coming in. Burn it down!

Yup. At first I thought that seemed premature given this team has LaVine and DeRozan and how can you tank with those guys?

But at this point there is still a chance of being bad enough so that they can potentially keep their pick. You'd have to get rid of DeRozan probably.

In other news, Durant fully aligned in the MVP race with some more monster games.

The Suns are being sold for $4B. Damn, that's a lot. I just put in the Clippers sale for half that with inflation and it's well below $3B. Obviously other things have happened and for super wealthy individuals you can write off a lot of the debt, but still, damn that's a lot of money for a historically subpar NBA team.

NFL teams and top PL clubs just got a lot more expensive.

PL teams yes, but aren’t NBA teams worth much more globally than the NFL?

If talking domestically, absolutely even the Cardinals are worth more than the Suns… but no one in China or Europe cares about Kyler Murray like they do Chris Paul and Devin Booker.

I think this is overestimating how much impact global popularity of a given sport has on the value of a given sports franchise.  At least according to Forbes, 30 of the 32 NFL franchises make their Top 50 most valuable franchises - worldwide - list.  And as the link notes, this is demonstrable:

Quote

The supremacy of the NFL is not an academic exercise. Last month, the Denver Broncos sold for $4.65 billion, a record amount for a sports team. The next-highest sale price was the $3.2 billion price tag for the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets in 2019. Even in constant dollars, the Broncos sold for nearly $1 billion more than the Nets.

Funny you should ask. MLS teams are actually much better investments than most club soccer teams across Europe outside of the top dogs, and even then it might not be a great financial idea (see Barcelona). It's very common for the costs to exceed revenue and if you get relegated, good luck... There's no comparison in US sports. Just imagine what would happen to the Lakers and their ownership if they lost something like 80% of their main source of money.

NFL teams are still by far and away the best investment just from a pure business sense. You can have a terrible franchise and its value could, idk, be the highest in the world, see the Cruzboys. Over half of the top 50 clubs in the world are in the NFL. Sad for the couple that missed out:

Funny enough, Bill SImmons of all people predicted that price tag months ago on a podcast. He gave his reasons for it, and turns out he was right.

The Washington Disasterfootballteam is expected to go for sale this year and I've heard rumors it will be in the 6-7 billion range.

I'd bet the over on that, especially if the purchase of the team comes with a handshake agreement for a publicly financed stadium (unless Bezos buys it in which he'd just build it himself, still with all kinds of tax giveaways).

We can never forget, Snyder's inability to get a new stadium is why he's getting the boot. All the other stuff looks really bad, but the team playing in a dump and his inability to self-finance is why he's finished.

The price seems high given it's not a franchise with a lot of great infrastructure, but it's in one of the biggest markets in the country and a lot of the costs of buying the team and building new facilities will be tax write offs. It still blows my mind that Ballmer, after the costs of buying the Clippers, building new faculties and a new area will have effectively paid nothing for the team while gaining the wealth that it's accrued over the last decade or so.

Many American professional sports teams have bad or stupid (or both) owners, or families of owners.  Think of Snyder, Sterling, Sarver, Bidwells, Haslem, McCaskeys, Kroenke, Glazers, Khan, etc. etc.

But Dolan is truly in a league of his own when it comes to clown show ownership.

Once again, when it comes to the NBA, it is the Game of Zones that really tells the real story.

^^^^Comment deserves multi purple cups but the forum wouldnt allow me.

I was just thinking that same shit yesterday. Every damn year with the leg injuries this dude. Your worthless if you cant get on the court.

Eta: If Davis doesnt make it back on the court this season, he will have only been available for 629 of the 902 games over those 11 years.
