An Army Veteran Says He Went Into ‘Combat Mode’ to Disarm the Gunman
Richard M. Fierro, who served for 15 years in the military, said he was at Club Q in Colorado Springs with his family, and took down the man who killed five people

That’s interesting. This guy was a 34-year old Major when he left the military. That’s a damn fine rank at that age, isn’t it? Obviously a smart guy.

I love what commentators from Elsewheres are saying, concerning the Colorado Springs Q Club terrorist attack:

Quote

A good guy without a gun took down a bad guy with a gun and was assisted by another guy in high heels and a dress.

When the cops finally arrive, they handcuff the Major and lock him up in in a cop car. While the law enforcement authorities hadn't red flagged the terrorist despite his many red flags, because 'this is a constitutional guns rights county."

That video of Hawley came immediately to mind, to many others besides myself, upon reading the first accounts of what Major Fierro did -- that running toward the source of extreme danger to stop it, organizing the defense and the offense, while Hawley upkneed alone away away away every MAN for HIMSELF, even while Pelosi was multitasking, working her fone, conferring with colleagues, while briskly WALKING.

These terrorist jerkwaddies, like Musk and u no hoo, are such fakes. Evile, dangerous fakes, but cowardly fakes.

I guess they figure to have dodged a bullet by not going with Twitter as a brand.

Aren't the Saudis big backers of Twitter?

ETA: Regarding the Major who took down the Colorado shooter... While he was kept in custody for an hour, he desperately tried to find out if his family was alright. Turns out the bf of his daughter had gotten killed.

Fragile Bird -- nah, standard. It usually takes 10-12 years to reach MAJ and the average age range is 33-35.

Mindwalker -- yes, that's right; an important Saudi (with the second largest position) as well as a Qatari fund. Other notables included Twitter's Jack and Oracle's Larry.

Columbia, Mo. – A Missouri judge ruled that a state agency previously led by Republican Josh Hawley broke public record laws on purpose to help his U.S. Senate campaign.

Cole County Presiding Judge Jon Beetem on Monday fined the Attorney General’s Office $12,000 and attorney fees, the maximum penalty for violating what’s known as the Sunshine Law. ...

“Attorney General Hawley’s office illegally concealed public documents immediately prior to a U.S. Senate election against Senator Claire McCaskill for the sole purpose of preventing damage to Hawley’s campaign and affecting the outcome of the election,” DSCC lawyer Mark Pedroli tweeted Tuesday. “Concealing public records in order to prevent damage to your campaign is cheating, it deprives competing candidates of a level playing field, and it’s illegal.”...

It’d be a good thing for members of lgbt and their allies to learn how to utilize their second amendment rights to protect themselves and their families.

Seems pretty straight forward in most places: buy gun; learn how to use gun; keep gun on one's person when out and about and when at home; obtain concealed carry permit as needed but don't let them know you are queer and that the threat to yourself as a queer person is the reason you need a concealed carry permit (not sure if "because I'm an American damn it!" is sufficient reason, but it's worth a try).

A Walmart employee opened fire Tuesday night at a Virginia store, killing at least six people before taking his own life, police said.

The shooting at the Walmart Supercenter was reported to police at 10:12 p.m., Chesapeake Police Chief Mark Solesky told reporters at a news conference Wednesday morning. Officers arrived two minutes later and entered the store two minutes after that, at 10:16 p.m., he said. Police declared the scene safe a little more than an hour later.

The shooter died from what authorities suspect was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the police chief said. Authorities believe the shooter used a pistol. Officials have not yet determined a motive, the chief said. A senior law enforcement official told NBC News he was a disgruntled employee.

Gov. Kathy Hochul signs nation’s first cryptocurrency mining ban

https://gothamist.com/news/hochul-signs-nations-first-cryptocurrency-mining-ban

Well written piece that clearly describes what this legislation is, what it means, and what it doesn't do.

Among what it does do is this:

Quote

.... “This bill will create the pause we need in the current trend of purchasing old power plants in New York for corporate profits and allow us to properly evaluate the impact of this industry on our climate goals before it’s too late,” said Assemblymember Anna Kelles, who sponsored the bill. The state Legislature passed it in early June.

Statewide, the law covers about 50 abandoned fossil fuel power plants potentially at risk of being purchased and restored. Combined, these facilities could add about 18 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and methane into the air, according to Anthony Ingraffea, an engineering professor at Cornell University. ....

Then another how tacky can ya get NY Dem politico ...

In  case one isn't all up in NYC Social Fashionista BOLD NAME Noose in NYC, the Met Gala is THE Biggiest Thing. The u no hoos have never even been invited to buy a table for the event, much less been comped a ticket by anyone, and does it rankle -- especially the Mean Wife -- nor was she ever on the Gala runway, representing a fashion house coz she was such a nonentity as a model. And not even marrying to the top of the Worst can get her a ticket coz he's socially ranked by the gatekeepers to never have been of a level to -- as mentioned -- even be asked to buy one of those incredibly expensive tables one must purchase in order to attend -- unless invited, of course, by somebody who is créme de la créme persona mas grata, to mix languages.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney faces investigation into Met Gala tickets

https://gothamist.com/news/rep-carolyn-maloney-faces-investigation-into-met-gala-tickets

Quote

Outgoing Manhattan Rep. Carolyn Maloney is facing a potential House ethics investigation for allegedly soliciting a ticket to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual gala after she fell off the invite list in 2016.

The House Ethics Committee announced Monday it is continuing to weigh a full investigation into the matter, four months after receiving a referral that found there was reason to question whether Maloney, a Democrat who chairs the House Oversight Committee, violated chamber rules and federal law.

In a 15-page referral from the Office of Congressional Ethics made public Monday, Maloney is accused of making a phone call to former museum president referred to as “Witness A” in March 2016 to request a ticket to the Met Gala after Maloney learned organizers didn’t plan to invite her that year.

The phone call, laid out in a contemporaneous email from the former museum president to executives, noted Maloney was “unhappy to say the least that she is not receiving an invitation to the Party of the Year,” a reference to the Met Gala.

The report does not name Witness A. But the email, which was included as an exhibit and did not redact the sender’s name, makes clear it is Emily Rafferty, who was Met president from 2005 to 2015. ....

Yeah saw yesterday they're investigating Maloney.  Don't really get the point considering she'll be gone in, like, 40 days.

Maloney pissed off the créme de la créme by 1) strong arming a ticket to the Gala when they were cutting back their comps list for politicos and others (she wasn't the only one); 2) then interfering with the City Council budget's allowance for the Met every year after that, while of course then, getting her annual comped invitation.  Those people have lots of friends in D.C.  It's safe to go after her now, now that she's out, and so they have.  She got beat by Nadler this last election.

I do grant this is not even a drizzle in a teapot to anyone except some of us here (meaning 'the City') who do take great ironic, comic notice of such barely-drizzles.  We all need our hobbies!  But addressing a higher level of issue, politically she was not great for us, to put it mildly.  She never earned any particular gratitude or even respect.  She was just a hack,  well connected.

I'm just saying the worst the Ethics Committee can do is recommend she gets kicked out of the House, which is already gonna happen.

Seen a sign up sheet in the lunch room at our workplace. Its for a concealed weapon permit class that an ex Navy guy is going to administer during off hours at our facility.

The format is many hours of class, byo gun and ammo, then afterwards they go to a range and blow holes in things.

My workmates are paying several hundreds of dollars for this opportunity.

Eta: Deer hunt opening day recently, the region bagged thousands of whitetails and at least 6 humans that we know of currently.
